I'm glad you're enjoying it! Just to set your minds at rest, I'm not typing it all out; I'm using a scanner and text recognition software. But... it's not too accurate, so takes a lot of proof reading and correction. It also seems to have a sense of humour, especially about names. How about these gems I had to edit out: Sheryl Growl; Pickle Lee Jones; Prank Sinatra. I kid you not! There's probably just one more episode left, which I should be able to finish off tomorrow. Yeah, that was - the best review I got for that record was from Janet Jackson. Yeah. And it really pleased me, it touched me. and so i say that janet really is the right person to cover 'beat of black wings'. i can't wait! more royalty pennies for joan! and an act of genuine fandom, right there in the mercantile music industry. patrick np - mimi goese - soak ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 19:58:26 +0000 From: Kate Tarasenko Subject: NJC: Come in from the cold Ken wrote: >(to the tune of "Come In From The Cold"): Back In 1997 with the temperature on the rise The JMDL was ablazing with flames falling from the skies. As soon as I come up with a line, I listen again and I find that ten other lines would be equally possible. In any case, I do recommend Elizabeth Frazer for your next buy. She's extraordinary. Hi JoniList, This Saturday marks the 11th legal anniversary for my wife Debbie and me. We have been living together for 18 years, so it's 18 years if you're freethinking enough to include the seven years we didn't need a piece of paper from the City Hall. When we got married in '87 we drove our renovated '67 VW camper to Prince Edward Island in Canada and sang Joni songs on the way up and on the way back. It was funny how Joni's lyrics just tied into the moment: "the bay of Fundy", "I drew a map of Canada with your face sketched on it twice" and " I remember that time you told me love is touching souls, 'cause surely you touched mine." That last lyric was on our wedding invitations. Recently I asked for help from the JMDL in finding the sheet music to Blue. Debbie and I have been trying to find this for years!. It is out of print. We have gone into New York City several times with finding the Blue Songbook as our mission for the day; we were never successful. I am happy to say that with the help of Pearl , I am able to give Debbie this sheet music as an anniversary gift. All I can say is that with people like Pearl on the JMDL, I can't wait to meet you all at a JMDL get together soon. Thank you so much Pearl! I came upon a child of God. What a sweetheart!!! Most Sincerely, - -Brian ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 22:46:34 -0400 From: trxschwa Subject: RE: NJC Elizabeth Frazer hey wally, it was sort of part of the mystique of cocteau twins, but no one ever understood the lyrics. i think she wrote a language for herself, it wouldn't be the first time in music or poetry. and i'm quite certain she that often just wrote the nonsense syllables that best fit the music. people created their own answers to the songs. listening required action. this is part of why i've thought this music so important for so long. cocteau twins' later albums have broader clues, wally, but truthfully, understanding lyrics has nothing to do with appreciating this music. this is an instrumental band that happens to use a phenomenal human voice as the lead instrument. about elizabeth frazer outside of c.t.: she has definitely sung intelligible lyrics. beautifully. on many projects. for example, np. is massive attack - mezzanine and actually this moment, track 8, black milk, one of a couple of gorgeous vocals by frazer. a friend gave me a song on an 'alpha', (narco-hop english band) album, w/frazer on vocals. i think she's also on tricky's newest. participating in music that interests me, cool.... however, with apologies to those who've heard this, the finest frazer vocal ever is not new and a non-cocteau: 'song to the siren' on this mortal coil's first: it'll end in tears . an old tim buckley song. this recording is in my constellation. of best songs ever. patrick np - massive attack - mezzanine - track 10 (group four) w/vox etc. by: who else? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 22:05:04 -0500 From: Mark Domyancich Subject: Re: NJC: Aconyms Could it as well be In My Honest Opinion?
