I would have loved to participate, and I would have loved to celebrate my birthday with everyone. To be honest, I didn't think I would be missed (even in passing) Unfortunately for me, the 21st was my 15th anniversary with my partner Jeff, who is not a major Joni fan. Both Jeff and my friend Sharon from NYC were with me on the nights of 5/22 & 5/23...so all three nights were kind of spoken for. The 23rd being my big 40th b'day, and the 22nd being Sharon's first night joining us in L.A. Jeff attended the concerts both nights with me, and he really enjoyed Bob Dylan's set...he thought Joni was great live, but he wasen't thrilled with her selections (he knows all her work of course). What does he know?? I'd be interested in hearing how other folks on this list handle situations similar to my own...I mean we all can't be lucky enough to be partnered with other Joni devotees, can we?? Does anyone else have to contend with "Joni Free Weekends"?? Does anyone else think their partner might be just a little bit jealous of their obession with the Godess? I've often wondered about this stuff... Anyway, I'd love to meet all the wonderful people from this discussion list one day...when I read about the studio tapings on the w/e after the concerts I was so happy for the people who got to go...it sounded magical. The few individuals I have exchanged emails with and have had tape tree encounters with affirm that this list is filled with incredible people. Okay, I'll go back to lurking in the shadows...thanks Marsha for saying hello to me and encouraging me to say hi to everyone! He is also try to get a JM art show to coincide with the concert--she is scheduled, at this point, to sing for about an hour. Does anyone think she just might do the set list from the tour? Hmmmm. He thought the bad side of this whole thing--the good side is that the old town school of folk music gets an infusion of money--but the bad side is that the majority of the people who are paying for the tickets more than likely will not care that JM is performing. Times had a very funny article on the wedding of Barbra Streisand and James Brolin which took place under cover of great security at Barbra's beachfront home in Malibu last evening. Armies of security and the ubiquitous rockslide on Pacific Coast Highway kept reporters and lookie-loos at bay. Excerpt: "Composer Marvin Hamlisch conducted a 16-piece orchestra featuring 10 violins during the ceremony. Guests included Donna Karan, John Travolta, his wife Kelly Prestoin, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, directors Sideny Pollack and Irwin Kershner and Quincy Jones. President Clinton's brother, Roger, attended with his wife, Molly......All afternoon security guards snarled at the crush of reporters clustered within 50 yards of the compound entrance. In a last-ditch attempt to drive away the media hordes, the guards pointed three immense speakers at the crowd just about 5 p.m., repeatedly blasting an obnoxiously loud song by the heavy metal group White Zombie."
