[Mark Ostler Subject: [MLL] Rare Mary Lou Lord and Elliott Smith Recording!!!! Hey Everybody, Recently I found the Jabberjaw 6 compliation in a bargain bin. Track 4 is Mary Lou Lord covering a Ween song called "Birthday Boy." It's an absolutely beautiful song about crashing at somebody's house. So then I read the liner notes to see who the backup guitar was being played by and it is none other than Elliott Smith!! WOW!! Seriously, this song is amazing, you must hear it, it will choke you up. If anybody out there is interested in hearing this song, reply and I'll send you a burned copy of it. If you send a blank cd, stamps, and/or a little $$, that would be even better to keep my costs down, I don't know how many people are on this list. I'm not sure if this email list is the right venue to do this, but I know how this song made me feel the first time I heard it, and I know there are other MLL fans out there that MUST hear it too. I wish I was more high tech, I'd make an mp3 of it. Anybody interested in just posting this to their website? So reply back if you are interested. - -Mark PS: Anyone got any live MLL bootlegs? I'd love to trade for those too. PPS: Anyone got an original MLL demo tape, the one with Smells Like Teen Spirit cover on it? I'll pay money for one of those. __________________________________ Yahoo! To: Mark Ostler That is an awesome song. Ween's companion song is 'Baby Bitch', I would love to hear MLL cover that as well, and do 'em back to back. Check it out if you haven't heard 'Baby Bitch' by Ween. I've traded non-album release material here before. I asked permission and nobody said anything. I think as long as nothing is being traded that should be being sold in stores, its ok. I have a WHOLE bunch of bootlegs. Some stuff from SXSW and some from various clubs in Mass and a DVD of a show somewhere. If anybody wants to trade, I'd be glad too. It might take me some time to get it all organized, and I don't have a DVD burner, and I need to find time to burn 'em, pack 'em and then get to the post office and blah blah blah. I'd be happy to trade for stuff I don't have, or the cost of the discs and postage, or if you ROCK, I'll just give 'em to ya. The original demo you speak of, is called 'Real' . I know a lot of people have copies of it on this list. There's a whole story behind that album, if you check the archives at smoe.org you can find out more. The artist has the right to their own public performance in addition to anythin "sold in stores." As long as Mary Lou doesn't mind your trading recordings of her live performances, you aren't doing anything wrong. If she DOES mind, then you are infringing upon one of her rights within the bundle of rights afforded by copyright. I would hope that Mary Lou would pipe up if she thought it wasn't cool. And I don't think it ever hurts to ask.
