She began the show with an apology. Recently, she said she was afflicted with a throat disease called something like Spazmotic Laranynx or something, same thing that Linda Thompson has. So she said she can't hit high high notes anymore and performs live rarely. Very sad to hear that news, and yes, her live performance was different than other ones I had seen. Still sang like an angel, even if she paused more often. Her set list was as follows: 1. Western Union Desperate 2. Flood Waters (title?) dedicated to the people of New Orleans. A cover of a Shawn Colvin song. 3. (can't remember the title, the one that ends, "lost my gig to a tribute band...) this one she dedicated to turning 40. 4. Own Worst Enemy 5. When Stars Burn Out (dedicated to Kurt and Elliott) 6. Vincent 52 (dedicated to Lemy of Motorhead) 7. Jingle Jangle Morning (a song about the terrible winter of 91) and that was it. she got mad at the other half of the bar for not being quiet during her set, and thanked us, then went to the merch booth. There, I talked to her briefly. She said she doesn't perform live much anymore, but she's managing two bands now. One was some punk band out of Boston that did a tour with Dropkick Murphy's (can't remember their name), and the other is a singer/songerwriter Haley Bonar who openned the show. Haley Bonar rocks!! Very similar to Mary Lou Lord, but not as rich in experience. Definately check out her music. She signed a cd of mine and invited me to stop by the Mercer St. enterance of Bumbershoot (a 4 day music festival here in Seattle) where she'd be busking. I saw her busk on Saturday, did five songs towards the end of the night, but her protege' Haley Bonar did most of the singing. Farming it out, that's for sure. Sorry for the long email, just thought I'd share my experience with those who couldn't make it. - -Mark greenscreamer@yahoo.com Tired of spam? Yahoo!
