HEY MARY LOU! Love you lots! -- Dino) SEEKING CLOSURE Last June, Elliott Smith won the L.A. Weekly award for the songwriter category. A year later he is gone, and a lot of questions about the circumstances surrounding his death are left unanswered. There is still an investigation going on, from what I've heard, but after 6 months it seems to have gone nowhere. Back in January, the Weekly published several articles by Christine Pelisek about Elliott's death [The Elliott Smith Mystery, January 2-8; The Final Moments of Elliott Smith's Life, January 9-15; Another View of Elliott Smith, January 16-22]. Does anyone know what's going on? Elliott was living in L.A.; he was certainly the most important songwriter in the local music scene; numerous musicians have praised his talent after his death. I really think that the Weekly should continue to report about this tragic story. Everybody needs an answer and closure. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 May 2004 19:41:59 EDT From: AidMerr@aol.com Subject: [MLL] Re: jinglejangle-digest V7 #79 >thanks for the review - two questions though: who was the not-so-good >support act and, who else was in mary lou's "band"? i know nick can be a >pretty good "band" all by himself, but not at the same time?! The supports were Eileen Rose and Peter someone (sorry, I've forgotten his name - he's on Loose in the UK with MLL). Not bad, but not good either IMO - one almost got the impression the thinking was "Put people who do the same sort of thing MLL does but not quite as well, to make her look more impressive to the reviewers" (The Borderline is in the same block as EMI Music Publishing so tends to have a few drunk A&R men sitting at the back at any vaguely high-profile band). The band was MLL (vocals & guitar - surprise...), Nick S (guitar, the odd vocal) & Jules Fenton (drums). ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 May 2004 19:58:59 EDT From: Bopst@aol.com Subject: Re: [MLL] Re: jinglejangle-digest V7 #79 The other act was Peter Bruntnell... He's on loose and me thinks fantastic!!! Check out his new acoustic record, the song "By the time my head gets to Phoenix" is pure Westerburg with a Brit sensibility! - -Kevin >thanks for the review - two questions though: who was the not-so-good >support act and, who else was in mary lou's "band"? i know nick can be a >pretty good "band" all by himself, but not at the same time?!
