But that doesn't mean he has to be nice. - - - - - - - - - - - - - By Thomas Bartlett" Salon is a subscription site, but can be viewed with 'day pass' at the cost of watching one fairly innocuous ad. I'll mention, however (and I have no financial interest in saying this), that Salon is doing some of the best mainstream reporting on the messes in Iraq and Washington and I don't mind recommend a subscription for the politically minded. 'Nuff said. Steve ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 07 May 2004 13:20:35 -0400 From: Recordings@aol.com Subject: [MLL] Wow, Sugar Sugar was your first ML! Patrick: Did you ever pick up the "video" version of Saturday Morning? Mary Lou's video for Sugar Sugar is on there, though it is continually interrupted by Drew Barrymore (friend of Courtney's!) rolling around on her fake living room couch with her fake friends. It's a cute video, though Mary Lou looks quite different than she does now (in one shot she looks almost like Robert Plant.) It was the first time I saw Mary Lou in anything other than a still photo, so it will always be special to me. I wonder if anyone has this "uncut." Dino ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 May 2004 15:00:34 EDT From: Bopst@aol.com Subject: [MLL] the sugar video Oh God...That was sooo gross...I had on my horrible pin-striped over-all's...Messy hair...(gross)...This was 2 days after meeting my future husband Kevin...It was really Kevin who introduced me to the world of dressing like a "lady"...He had that Rockabilly thing going on...Loved clothes, always looked very well-groomed...I myself had never even plucked an eyebrow in my life before meeting him...I had never been to a rockabilly show...Didn't know people danced!!!...So after witnessing several Big Sandy shows I knew it was time for me to do something about the way I looked....All the gals at these things were dressed to the max looking like Betty Page or Jane Mansfield...That world can also be catty as hell....I stuck out like a sore themb in that scene....In my cut off levi's cords, judge dredd t shirt and combat boots... So, I dyed my hair black, cut my bangs, plucked my eyebrows, got my teeth fixed, and got a hold of some "Viva Glamm" lipstick (mac)...I bought a pair of shoes (with heels) and a 50's dress at Fred Siegel...I lost 17 pounds and became "a lady"... Mostly I started to respect myself and it was a lot of fun... I don't think I could watch that video now...I'd shreek in horror... - -Mary Lou ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 May 2004 13:58:29 -0700 From: "Dino Dimuro" Subject: [MLL] Bookmarks Of The Transition Come on, Mary Lou, you didn't look THAT bad! In parts of Sugar Sugar you're really cute. You must have been right at the beginning of your transition when I met you at the CAN benefit in L.A., because the next time I saw you, the Bettie Page look had definitely kicked in (I remember someone mistaking you for Kristin Hersh, which is certainly not a stretch.) The photo on the back of Martian Saints also dates from "The Start of The Transition," I believe. The black hair was fun but I do prefer the blonde look. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 7 May 2004 21:22:36 GMT From: Patrick T Power Subject: [MLL] Re: Bookmarks Of The Transition Dino wrote: >>Come on, Mary Lou, you didn't look THAT bad! Humility and heart! In contrast (to tie this thread with a previous one), Courtney thinks (or acts like) she's the hottest thing since Eve, and comes off as less attractive than she might be. America's Sweetheart?, Courtney has *nothing* on Mary Lou. Pat ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
