In my opinion he, like Kurt Cobain, took the coward's way out. We all have problems. I certainly do not feel that Elliot Smith's selfish, and weak, action deserves glorification, nor does it deserve "honor". This was not Sam Cooke, or John Lennon. both of whom were murdered. Please do not think me insensitive. I just feel he know deserves a memorial. What did he die for? So that we may find his lyrics all the more poignant? So that MLL can allude to this tragedy in her onstage/street/subway banter?(This is no slur on MLL, by the way!) Suicide is very tragic. It is most tragic for the friends and family. If you want to honor Elliot Smith's memory, volunteer for the Samaritans hotline, or a suicide helpline. Do something tangible that may help another family, or other friends, avoid such a tragedy. Another meaningless memorial is a nice thought, but it's just that!" The jury is still out on whether or not Elliott actually committed suicide. I read the coroners report (god forgive me), but it's pretty tough to stab yourself in the heart once, much less twice - and he had lacerations on his hands. I say, don't make your mind up on it until the cops involved close the case at least. Or his family issues a statement. Otherwise, it's just conjecture. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Apr 2004 20:55:45 +0200 From: Carsten Wohlfeld Subject: [MLL] frankfurt / bielefeld pictures hey ho! still haven't found the time to write the english version of my frankfurt/bielefeld review, but here's the (somewhat shorter) german version along with some less-than-great pictures - click on "foto galerie" to see them all (*) and please do not try to put that review through some translator - it will suck and you'll get an english version soon. thanks. http://www.gaesteliste.de/konzerte/show.html?_nr=817 cheerio carsten (*) in case you are wondering - the bielefeld pictures with the electric guitar are from the soundcheck. she only played acoustic during the show. - -- http://carstenwohlfeld.com http://carstenwohlfeld.de "what's wrong with wanting to be at home with your record collection?" ~ nick hornby ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Apr 2004 13:30:44 -0700 From: "Dino Dimuro" Subject: RE: [MLL] frankfurt / bielefeld pictures Wow - those are gorgeous photos, very close-up and intimate. "The Wind Blew All Around Me" is a great way to start off the record, and I also like Baby Blue, Someone Always Talks, and Turn Me Round a lot. Congrats, Mary Lou. Also, I wondered if anyone knew where I could get Mary Lou's version of "Jump" which I heard on the internet a while ago. She does a great version of the song, but I can't seem to find it on any of her records. Thanks a lot! Was it this Lisa person you're talking about?...Um... the part where she says something about "what did he die for...so Mary Lou can allude to it in her on stage banter"? WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU????Why would you say something like that???? I only just saw this FUCKING JOKE of a post and I strongly suggest you get the fuck off of this list and keep your fucking opinions to yourself...Yea...IT DID INDEED STING!!!!...Why don't you introduce yourself to me at one of my shows? That would be nice....We'll see who's a FUCKING COWARD then!!!!!!!!!!!You fucking piece of shit. - -Mary Lou ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Apr 2004 19:47:52 -0700 (PDT) From: Lisa Price Subject: Re: [MLL] Ok...I'm confused First, let me say how much I enjoyed your post. I have always been enchanted with the simple wit of imbeciles. Well if I can make it onto the subway some evening when you are rasping, or yodeling, or whatever it is you do, I will be glad to introduce myself. I often chat with all sorts. You are a joke. Everyone I know at Berkeley, those who have heard of you, think you are pathetic. You can't even stay in time. And and for Elliot Smith, he was a coward. Courtney Love was right about you. You tried to make a career out of alledging you sucked Kurt Cobain's cock. The difference between you and Courtney Love, for all her faults, is she does have talent. You will never see her being laughed at on a street corner. Lady..Sony was right to drop your stupid ass, and row your album..what was it called?? ..into the cut out bins. These bohemians who are on this site have nothing better to do. Just stick a fork in your ass..you are done! __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Protect your identity with Yahoo! Your blathering Courtney-apologist crap might play well in the little Hole you climbed out of, but it's pointless to be wasting your putrid breath on this list, because now that you've shown your true colors, I'd expect that you'll see no more responses to anything else you might have to spew. And, frankly, I didn't know that talent for murder was considered such a good thing. They have records on Alan McGhee's new label Poptunes. Like you said in Hamburg "Baby Blue" was in the shops the next day and I really like the record. Very good songs, my favourites are "Stars burn out" and "Someone always talks". Hope you return to Germany sometime in the future.
