Someone who didn't get any blue "Peeps". I can't help this... it's kind of poetically phrased: sings on the subway" -- the assonance of the s's, and also "some old weird chick" has a very interesting rhythm and a lippy arrangement that you have to wrap your mouth around to say. I like the internal rhyme of "some," "don't," and "old" and the way the "k" of "chick" causes a guttural break in the sentence. Also the internal rhyme of "this," "friggin," "list," and "chick" is especially noticeable and unifying. Not too open with the vowels -- predominantly "ih" (i) and "uh" (o). The repeating "F," "K," "S," "T," out-weight the vowel by far and are the strongest consonants. It's pretty good -- I would re-phrase, tho, something more like: > FOR CHRIST'S SAKE GET ME OFF THIS FRIGGIN LIST! I DONT CARE ABOUT SOME OLD WEIRD CHICK, WHO SINGS ON THE SUBWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!< Constructive criticism: too many exclamation points at the end and with the caps it's really overkill. No need. Interesting depiction, the juxtaposition of "old" and "chick." Of course, an "old chick: would have to be a regular grown-up chicken, and not a cute little fuzzy yellow puff of peeping fur. Mary Lou doesn't have feathers, yet -- she's not that old. :) Jill > I'd also be curious to know how someone can be so resourceful as to join a list about "some old weird chick" she doesn't care about, but not resourceful enough to uns*bscribe. > > > Pat > (Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa!) > > ----------------- > > From Lisa Price: > > > Lisa, thanks so much for mentioning Christ on Good Friday! > > > ________________________________________________________________ > The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! > Surf the Web up to FIVE TIMES FASTER! > Only $14.95/ month - visit www.juno.com to sign up today! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Apr 2004 16:52:58 EDT From: Bopst@aol.com Subject: [MLL] hehe From Mary Lou Some wierd old chick...hehe...God, I really do feel like an old bastard these days...Man the tours really wipe me out...Great fun though...Yea, the Frankfourt show...Man that was a long one...2 hours and 25 minutes or so...Nothing as insane as the SXSW 8 hour marathon, but quite an intense set...I really loved it...The crowd were great, and having Carsten there was a double delight!!! The Basque Country shows were fun as well, but a lot more folky and a little more un-rock- ish...(also very few spoke English and lots of the people did in fact speak Basque as well as Spanish...,so that made it kind of difficult since my songs are so "wordy")...But the people were so so nice and the country is really beautiful..San Sebastian is definately one of the prettiest cities I've ever seen...Bilboa was cool too....Never made it to the Gugenhiem, but maybe next time.... So, all in all the tour has been great....It's been awesome to have seen so many of you guys over these past couple of months...The press has been pretty good so far...Blender gave the record 3 stars and included a picture (even though they made fun of my very Mary-Tyler Moore -ish scarf!), so that was cool, and there should be a bunch of new press coming out in Germany and the UK...I'm going to do a tour in Ireland with Josh Ritter next month and I'm really looking foreward to that and also some shows in England with Peter Bruntnell (who happens to be one of my favorite song writers (besides Mark Kozelek) right now...Mark was at my show in San Francisco and although he's a friend of mine, I was really nervous...He rocks my world so so so much!!!!!...You guys should all own a copy of the Sun Kill Moon record!!!! WOW............................................................................ Ok, well thanks to all of you who came out to the shows...And thanks to all of you guys who keeep this list going....I thought that girl was kind of funny....I wonder sometimes how a person winds up on a list they don't want to be on...I also wonder how they don't know any other way to get themselves off the list than to be an idiot like she seemed to be...I think if she had wanted to get off the list, no one was holding her hostage to be on it, and if it's Rachael that oversees this list, I'm sure she could have done something about it...Oh well, whoever she was, I wish her a great life full of wonderful music that MTV and Clearchannel will light up her life with....See in in Cancun little lady .....And if we're really lucky, maybe the next info-mercial for Girls Gone Wild....... NOW GET THE FUCK OFF MY LIST YOU LOSER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HeHe..Hey DINO!!!! It's all you're fault...I'm all jacked up on Cappaccino!!!! Being from SF, I was lucky enough to know at least one Red House Painter during my tenure and see a bunch of Mark K's shows. I even saw the most depressing show of my life (in a good way!) when Mark K and Mark Eitzel played the same nite at the Great American. I got to meet and hang out with Mark Eitzel at SXSW this year which was awesome. Funnily enough I didn't recognize him when introduced and actually said "I'm sorry WHO ARE YOU?" and when he said his name was Mark, I actually asked him if he worked for a label. Ha ha ha ha. We drank much, watched Calla and Calexico together and he called SXSW the "Festival of Broken Dreams" and laughed wryly afterward. The next nite, I met Robert Vickers (ex-Go Betweens) who now manages Jet Set Records -- which the new Sun Kill Moon record is on, I believe. he was telling me all about the new record and how excited they were about it. I can't wait to hear it. MLL: Josh Ritter is great. Good for you, girl! Hey, did you know Tracy Bonham at all from Boston? She came to Sunday dinner at Dave Gibbs' house last week and I really like her. She seems like a great girl. Anyway...much love to everyone who WANTS to be on the list and of course to Mary Lou.
