Anyway, here is a long article about Elliott and his death from The Guardian in the UK in which Mary Lou is quoted: http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/fridayreview/story/0,12102,1172275,00.html Apparently, his family is also selling his studio - see http://www.sweetadeline.net And if anyone knows or sees Ashley or has her email address, can you please write me offlist or at least tell her I say hello. I've been wanting to drop her a note, I met her at I think a Mary Lou show or maybe an Elliott one once a long time ago. rachel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Mar 2004 13:31:01 -0500 From: Recordings@aol.com Subject: [MLL] Not Michael Bolton! Guardian article: >He (Elliott Smith) performed at the (Academy) awards ceremony, between Celine Dion and Michael Bolton< This misinformation is creeping into a lot of stories about Elliott. He actually perfomed between Trisha Yearwood and Celine Dion (and for the record, he said that they were very nice people.) Michael Bolton may have performed that night, but not near Elliott. I still have my tape of that Oscar show. Michael Bolton is more of a surreal contrast, but it's wrong. I was able to make it over to Club DeVille in time to catch a few songs of MLL. SXSW is unfortunately all about being in about 7 places at once! I was able to say hello to her before she went on and she started the nite with Western Union Desperate. Her guitar chord was bad, tho, and the sound kept cutting in and out -- which was surely frustrating for her. But she handled it like a pro and didn't seem to get too rattled and just kept singing while asking for a new chord. The sound was better on the next song. I was pretty hammered by the time we got to that show, so I can't really remember the set list. I did end up standing next to big Dave who I know I've met at MLL shows in NYC. Does he work for Rubric? So you pretty much know about the same amount as you did before about the show. She looked really pretty tho.
