Of course it is always fun to see Mary Lou with a full band where they can be as loud as they want, but it was nice to be able to really *hear* the songs at Passim. Since my bad luck precludes me from ever happening upon Mary Lou at Park Street (I think in the 7 years I've lived here I've passed through there thousands of times and only seen her there maybe 2 or 3 times), I was very happy and surprised to find her there at about 11:45 last night -- it really made my day after a long and stressful day at work. The only ones who didn't appreciate, I think, were my friend's cats, who were already long overdue to be fed and would probably be a little upset if they found out I was hanging around a subway station when that perfectly good can of cat food clearly wasn't going to open itself... - m ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Dec 2003 12:18:13 -0600 From: "Tom Mckelvy" Subject: [MLL] Rehoboth Beach show Mary Lou was supposed to play a show in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware on Saturday December 27th at the Dogfishhead brewing company. My friend Jamie and I are huge fans of Mary Lou, so we decided to take a road trip from Pittsburgh, PA to Rehoboth, which is about a 7 hour drive. We were eating when our waitress told us that Mary Lou cancelled the show around noon that day. We were both really upset becuase the last time we tried to see Mary Lou she cancelled also. That show was suppposed to be at the Tin Angel In Philly, her opening act had a seizure or something. The band that filled in for her in Rehoboth Beach was Brickfoot. We had never heard of Brickfoot, so we weren't really sure what to expect. They started there set with a cover of an Elliot Smith song, which was really great. Later on in the set they told us that they played the Elliot Smith tribute in Boston and were also really looking forward to Mary Lou's set. Brickfoot was a really great band, they played some original songs, some Elliot Smith covers, and a Coldplay cover. Jamie and I hung out with some of the members of Brickfoot after the show and talked, and the Dogfishhead brewing company gave us a free case of beer for coming all that way to see Mary Lou and not being able to. Jay from Brickfoot gave us a free copy of there 1st cd Polycarbon Lens, which is more pop than what they do now, but still good. Brickfoot is realeasing a new album in early 2004. Check out there website at www.brickfoot.com Even thouth we didn't get to see Mary Lou our trip wasn't a total bust. We had good food, good music, good beer, and really really nice people to hang with. I'm just scared about taking a road trip to see Mary Lou again in fear that she'll cancell, seeing that this happened to us twice. She'll just have to come to Pittsburgh, PA really soon to make it up to us!!! Have a safe and happy New Year, Tom ;-) _____________________________________________ Free email with personality! Melissa >http://www.emailthis.clickability.com/et/emailThis?clickMap=viewThis&etMailTo ID=2092768290&pt=Y Coroner: Elliott Smith death open question Wednesday, December 31, 2003 Posted: 10:13 AM EST (1513 GMT) LOS ANGELES, (Reuters) -- Los Angeles coroner's officials said Tuesday they could not determine whether the stab wounds that killed Oscar-nominated singer-songwriter Elliott Smith in October were self-inflicted. An autopsy report appears to leave the nature of Smith's death, which was initially called a suicide by Los Angeles police, an open question. The body of Smith -- who earned an Oscar nomination and widespread notice for his 1997 single "Miss Misery" from the film "Good Will Hunting" -- was found in October at his Los Angeles home by the musician's live-in girlfriend. Coroner's spokesman David Campbell said Smith, 34, died from two "penetrating stab wounds" to the chest. "The trauma that he sustained could have been inflicted by him or by another and the coroner has not been able to make a determination," Campbell said. Campbell said toxicology tests found no illegal or controlled substances in Smith's system. The singer was apparently taking anti-depressants and medication for attention deficit disorder at the time of his death but was not abusing them, Campbell said. He said the case would remain open and that coroner's officials would revisit their findings if additional information surfaced. A spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department said homicide detectives also would "look again" at Smith's death following the autopsy report. He said the case was initially reported to the LAPD as a suicide. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Dec 2003 18:14:37 -0500 (EST) From: Subject: [MLL] [Fwd: Important - Mary Lou Lord Orlando show has moved] - -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Important - Mary Lou Lord Orlando show has moved From: "Andrew Colvin" Date: Wed, December 31, 2003 6:06 pm Very Important --- please note - Mary Lou Lord's Orlando date and venue has moved: New Confirmation is: Monday 1/5 at The Lodge 34 N Orange Ave Downtown Orlando 10 pm Please make necessary changes...
