She sang one song "Ron" off of it along with lots of oldies and covers and stuff, including "Sunspot Stopwatch" which I hadn't heard in a long time. She seems really happy and excited to be playing which is great, and will be back in NYC for CMJ so stay tuned for that. He was/is the singer/leader/songwriter from The Old '97's. He writes great songs. I forget the name of his last album/first solo album (I think), I could go look at my copy but that would mean getting up from the computer chair, but its really really good. I used to go see the 97's all the time here in Dallas. The bass player lived in the same apartment complex as I did at one time. One time he yelled at a girlfriend of mine for snagging a parking space he particularly liked and thought belonged to him because he was in the hot Dallas band at the time. So screw 'em, I never went to a '97s show again, and parked in that space every possible time I could. I would get up and go re-park my car whenever he left. I don't know why I included that bit of information. Rhett is really good though. Jonathan _________________________________________________________________ Tired of spam? There was some hoopla about the recording of it, apparently. The story I heard was that basically Elektra threatened to DROP the Old 97's entirely unless Rhett recorded a solo record. Elektra had never been particularly great about promoting the 97's anyway and apparently, the bottom line was they felt Rhett was the star and could sell records and the rest of the guys could f*** off. Then other people said the band was just tired of the schtick. They've been together for ages. And Rhett and this other fellow used to a great duo called The Ranchero Brothers. They played a "last show" in Texas that a friend of mine went to and said it was their best show to date. Also, Rhett is agoddamndorable. He played here in LA tonite at Largo, but I missed the show darnit. GO SEE MLL & RHETT!
