I ran into a writer friend at a party last night and found out that Rockrgrl (http://www.rockrgrl.com but it's a print mag) was looking for someone to cover the History of Girl show on Sunday night, so I'm going to do a writeup on it, which I guess will be out maybe in March or so of next year. Yay! I'm looking forward to this weekend's shows. I had meant to do a writeup of the Southpaw show and never did, so I will report back on these, and if people are going to Mary Lou's other shows, please give us reports on them! Right? Well.. Robbie Fulks (you really should know who Robbie Fulks is, he's on Bloodshot...he wrote 'She Took A Lotta Pills and Died) is running a contest on his website. http://robbiefulks.com/newsarchive.html?id=00034 or just go to robbiefulks.com and find it in the news archives. Anyone who disrupts a Ryan Adams show with a Bryan Adams song request gets a prize. Hehehehe Too damned funny! If I ever do go to a Ryan Adams show again, I'm yelling out requests for Robbie Fulks songs. And for the record, I really like Ryan's songs, I think he's really really talented. But...the dudes got a bad attitude. I saw Whiskeytown a couple of times, and both times he chewed out memebers of his band right onstage, and he even insulted his girlfriend once, who was his bass player at the time (at least I think it was his girlfriend). I've seen a couple of solo shows and one with the Pinkhearts...and...ehhh. Dudes on a head trip, but he's a really great songwriter and a hella monster guitar player (and I do mean HELLA). If you want another good laugh about him, go to offtherecordbook.com. Dave Menconi, who has covered Adam's career from the beginning, hometown rock critc, wrote a novel about the music biz, Off the Record, that is good, very funny, and the lead singer for the band in the book, is basied on Adams, and really exagerated about him.
