That went along with covers of Jacko's Thriller, The Saddest Story Ever Told by the Magnetic Fields, and Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." ======================================== Hi y'all, I'm writing from Windsor Ontario in Canada. Another really great version of Billy Bragg's St. Swithin's Day is done by the UK band Dubstar. Imagine girl vocals and mix-y beats. Very pretty band. Also, I am really enjoying Live City Sounds by MLL lately:) And I am a huge BB fan so that last email caught my attention:) Wow. The closest I have come to Death Cab for Cutie (fabulous!) is trying to catch them in Detroit but to no avail. That's neat that they did that cover by MF too:) How fantastic! I was wondering if anyone does trades on this list for live recordings MLL-related and otherwise. Please email me off list if you are interested in trading for mix-tapes:) Nice to meet you:) Carly msoulrecords@yahoo.ca http://modernsoul.tripod.com List of likes: Gram Parsons, Billy Bragg, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, Paul Weller, Super Furry Animals, The Pastels, Mary Lou Lord, The Redstripes, The Beach Boys, The Byrds, Heavenly, Aislers Set ... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Jul 2002 09:53:58 -0700 From: Hanson Ho Subject: [MLL] Mary Lou on Pitchfork Hehe... I guess I beat everyone to it! :-) http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/news/02-07/18.shtml - ------ Mary Lou Lord Plays East Coast, Records New LP She don't fit in to your indie world Aaron Shaul reports: Finding that busking in the Boston subways doesn't foot the folk-rock bills, ex-Kill Rock Stars troubadour Mary Lou Lord has decided to surface from the Park Street Red Line for a four-date tour of the east coast. She may, of course, plan four additional dates, provided she sees her shadow. You might know Lord from her brief flirtation with Epic Records, who released her 1998 floparoo, Got No Shadow, or more recently, from her cover of Daniel Johnston's "Speeding Motorcycle" in Target's TV ads. Lord's albums and live shows generally feature an eclectic array of originals, as well as covers of songs by rock icons such as Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen, as well as more contemporary artists like Elliott Smith, the Magnetic Fields, and the Bevis Frond. Lord's most recent outing, 2001's Live: City Sounds, was comprised of recordings made during her street performances, though her old pal Nick Saloman will be releasing her next studio album later this year on his Rubric label.
