Wanted to pass this along to the list for obvious reasons... - -- On June 4th, 2002, Rubric Records will release the Bevis Frond's What Did For The Dinosaurs. While Rubric Records has been busy re-releasing the entire Frond catalog, What Did For The Dinosaurs is the first release of new material since 2000's Valedictory Songs, and the Bevis Frond's first ever digitally recorded album. Nick Saloman aka Mr. Bevis Frond is a seminal guitarist and ring leader for the cult of psychedelica, which includes the Ptolemaic Terrascope fanzine and Terrastock, it's companion annual music fesitval . Saloman's guitar stylings are a bit harder on What Did For The Dinosaurs than found on past Bevis Frond efforts, and its fair to say that this dinosaur might be a bit cranky about the current state of the music industry. He thinks nothing of admonishing the rock world around him while delivering mind-blowing Hendrixian leads. On the title track of the album, Nick sings "And now I'm through with avuncular diplomacy/I've stopped saying 'I think I need to hear some more'/This stuff is rubbish, I can't stand it and that's that/And I don't care if I sound like a dinosaur." This is not to say he is incapable of pulling off a beautiful ballad (bLost Souls Dayb) and the pop songcraft embraced by Mary Lou Lord, Teenage Fanclub and a smattering of other has also remained (bSilver Dartb). The Bevis Frond remain among the lone practitioners of their generation of rockers. Now at the peak of his career, Nick Saloman puts forth his latest jam packed set of music to be worshiped by lovers of rock. Terrastock V is set to take place in Cambridge, Massachusetts October 11- 13th, 2002 and a US Bevis Frond tour is to follow. ------------------------------ End of jinglejangle-digest V5 #67 *********************************
