The twenty-five-song opus features a guest list that includes COUNTING CROWS frontman ADAM DURITZ, CECE WINANS, TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS keyboardist BENMONT TENCH and drummer JIM KELTNER. "The first disc is about all these things that were happening in my life, leaving New York," Adams said. "The second disc is kind of like L.A. and 'What's going on here?' It's really going to be like this travelogue but I think it's going to make sense." Yahoo! Melissa Mary Lou Lord - The Middle East (Upstairs), Cambridge, MA - 3/15/01 Mary Lou Lord was working her charms on a Boston crowd yet again, for as she stepped onto the stage, she announced that she was blinded by the stage lighting and was instantly offered half a dozen pairs of sunglasses by a warm and waiting audience. Putting on a pair of oversized aviator shades (bI feel really stupid wearing these, BUT...b Lord smiled), Mary Lou tuned her guitar and launched into bNaive Melodyb by the Talking Heads, followed by a lovely, acoustic take on her own bJingle Jangle Morning.b While Lord has put out jangly, Byrds-influenced records, she is most at home busking alone on the streets with just an acoustic guitar, and that is what she did at the Middle East. After taking off her sunglasses, but keeping them on-stage bjust in case...b she launched into bBees Wingb by Richard Thompson, the Magnetic Fieldsb bI Donbt Want To Get Over You,b and, after a request from the audience, Weenbs bBirthday Boy.b If cuteness alone were a key to success, then Lord would be at the top of the game right now. She certainly seemed on the top of her game in this performance, as she playfully joked with the crowd between songs, skillfully finger picking her guitar and singing in her girlish, warm voice songs such as Shawn Colvinbs bNew Thing Now,b Beavis Fordbs bBook,b and rounding out her hour-long set with bTexas Blues.b While Lord maybve taken a couple of playful knocks for wearing a Yankees cap, she gains points for being spotted flipping through last monthbs Boston SoundCheck Magazine. In the end, Mary Lou Lord gave the Wednesday night crowd a nice night of music, good humor, and a reason to keep an eye out for her next area appearance. ------------------------------ End of jinglejangle-digest V4 #61 *********************************
