Rather than make her fans wait while she came up with the time and money to devote to a full length CD project, she devised a CD Single Of The Month Club. Once a month a CD 2 - 4 cuts long would show up in the mail. You could either pay one by one or in advance for the entire program, which is what I did - and it was only $1 - 2 each or $15 - 20 for the whole deal, I forget. Sometimes the singles contained different mixes of a song, novelty tunes (like a Christmas song) that would never make it into a finished official release, works in progress - - you just never knew. When she finally released her next CD a lot of these songs were on it, but meanwhile if you were getting these singles you got a glimpse into the process that goes into producing a CD. Plus the "outtakes" that didn't make the final cut have their own charm, and these singles are collectors' items. I know this is different than what Dino suggested, but there are many ways to get the music to the fans. Perhaps Mary Lou could use this model. She may even know Barbara, who lives in Framingham, and could get some tips on making this work, if she needs 'em. And with the cost of blank CDs now just pennies (makes you wonder where your $15 goes, doesn't it?) this sort of project is financially feasible. Which is kind of an "Oobu-Joobu" type show that'll be streamed on the internet on the official site. (for those who don't know, "Oobu-Joobu" was an hour long radio program hosted by Paul McCartney. Featuring his outtakes, live takes, and favorite records of his) Maybe someone has the bandwidth to do this with Mary Lou. Each month feature a different show, or performance? The month of April is the Passim show; May is SXSW...etc. the quality wouldn't be the same as receiving a cdr in the mail... I, however, love studio outtakes, so that would be my first request. But, I can literally picture Mary Lou saying, "Oh GAWD, I don't want people to hear that stuff!" :) I, too, would love to partake of a Mary Lou Tape Club, in whatever form it takes. Several folks have inquired about the cost of overseas shipping for the new Mary Lou disc... I figure the best way to handle this is the honor system! Send us the $10 for the CD and whatever you estimate will be the cost of shipping to your particular part of the globe... We trust ya!!! ( and if it's a little under, hey, no sweat!!!) and if it's a little over, maybe I'll throw in some MLL surprise souvenirs!!! thanks, Kevin ------------------------------ End of jinglejangle-digest V4 #45 *********************************
