This year I can barely think of five. So, what I can scrounge together... 1) Radiohead, "Kid A" Just better than anything else I heard, and all that crap about it being too "weird" and "difficult" was just that - crap. Exceptionally beautiful, creepy, insinuating, and really accessible once you take it on its own terms. 2) Star Ghost Dog, "The Great Indoors" Ice-cold power pop from hip Bostonians. Not afraid of disco, either. 3) Alex Chilton, "Set" Jazz and R&B standards by the coolest man alive. Sleazy and greasy in the best way. 4) Aimee Mann, "Bachelor No. 2" Was that this year or last? Anyways, not Aimee's best work (that'd be "I'm with Stupid"), with the melodies coming up more angular than sweet, but still slick literate pop, and still worth the money. 5) Eliott Smith, "Figure 8" Again, not Eliott's strongest, but good enough in a weak year, and probably requires no explanation. -Stefan Yahoo!
