The Green Pajamas song "She Turns Me On" is really infectious. Mary Lou's version of "From Galway To Graceland" is totally different than the way she plays it live. I don't really know how the original version goes, but her version on the comp is slightly over 5 minutes long, is much slower than she usually plays it, and has this very languid music. Mary Lou did the vocals, she had a band for the rest of it. I don't know exactly what they did with her vocals but it sounds very...close, I guess, is the best way I can describe it. It's like her voice is much more noticeable than the music, which seems like it's a separate thing from what she's singing. It sounds very different than I'm used to hearing Mary Lou, like louder and clearer or something. Sorry if my explanation sucks, I guess you have to hear it for yourself to get what I'm trying to say. I like it, but it took a bit of getting used to after hearing her play it live. The Raging Teens also have a cool song on it, "Stayed Out Late Again." Mary Lou's credits on the song are: mll - vocals mike leahy - guitar brian dunton - bass jerome deupree - drums duke roth - cello it was recorded at fort apache in october 1999 Here's what Dave Gwiazdowski wrote in the liner notes: My old friend Mary Lou Lord submitted "From Galway To Graceland", a Richard Thompson song (found on the 3-CD Rykodisc retrospective Watching The Dark) that has become a recent live staple for her this past year. Thanks to Brian Dunton for his work at Fort Apache to get this track wrapped up, Kill Rock Stars for allowing us to use their unfinished scraps and Sony for making us wait half a year for the paperwork before dropping Mary Lou ("like an egg!" she sez). Rockabilly rebels The Raging Teens chipped in two Sparkletones covers; "Let's Go Rock 'n Roll" will be vinyl only, and "Stayed Out Late Again" is enclosed herein. Their second album (rub12) has bene recorded in L.A. under the watchful eye of legend Deke Dickerson. And that's about it...looking forward to the shows this weekend. Raging Teens at 10 at Siberia on Friday and Mary Lou at 11 at Under Acme on Saturday, but of course those times are just what's listed, they could change. rachel __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
