Or that the KRS album will not be a "solo" record?! i guess we'll find out sooner or later. since i'm sure the album on rubric will take quite a while, i hope that at least the krs album will be out within the next six months or so. it's about time for new stuff, isn't it? anybody here in touch with krs who'd be able to find out? smiles, carsten > > > > > > Lee > > ------------------------------ > > End of jinglejangle-digest V3 #141 > ********************************** > - -- http://carstenwohlfeld.de "i ain't a communist necessarily, but i been in the red all my life" (woody guthrie) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2000 06:10:29 -0700 (PDT) From: Rachel Bussel Subject: [MLL] new recordings The covers album I believe Mary Lou is putting out herself and licensing to Kill Rock Stars, or something along those lines, so it is not technically "on" Kill Rock Stars but will be available from them as well as from Mary Lou. It will be covers she recorded while busking, not in a studio. Mary Lou said it will be ready in spring 2001. She is ALSO going to be doing a studio album for Rubric Records - I don't know when that will be recorded or released, but she does plan to have a band for it and record in a studio. I believe she will be writing a few new songs for it but I don't think all the details of that have been worked out yet. I said that the Rubric Records compilation is now available on CD through Rubric - it will be in stores on November 6, vinyl release date to be determined. This is the one that has Mary Lou's cover of "From Galway to Graceland" by Richard Thompson. Here is some info direct from http://www.rubricrecords.com Welcome to the Rubric Records Website! Or that the KRS album >will not be a "solo" record?! The studio album is the Rubric Records album. Also, it seems like that is more of the "full band" album, a la "Got No Shadow". Hence the "swirling, grungy guitars" she referred to for "She's Still Bewitching Me". She was also doing songs, presumably for the live album, that were originally "electric", like Supergun", so it is conceivable that "She's Still Bewitching Me" would be on both. >i guess we'll find out sooner or later. since i'm sure the album on >rubric will take quite a while, i hope that at least the krs album will >be out within the next six months or so. it's about time for new >stuff, isn't it? anybody here in touch with krs who'd be able to find >out? She claimed not to have a lot of new songs to record, or at least not ones she has written. I'm not sure what the songs would be for that one other than "She's Still Bewitching Me", unless she uses some of the other covers in band versions. When she was out busking recently, she was talking about how she has been "playing the same fucking songs for ten years". Which is kind of true, but she seems to have a lot of songs that she doesn't usually play that she seems to do quite well. Before the say I found out she was recording, she was playing the previous weekend, and played a bunch of songs i had no recollection of her doing before. One was "Twilight" by the band, and one was "Turning of the Tide" by Richard Thompson (that one seems like she had just started to try and play it). Also she did a great song that was kind of countryish that has some sort of refrain about the "solid gold door on the 31st floor", which she sang really well (and therefore might be on the live album). So anyway, there seem to be a bunch of songs that she knows, at least sort of, but apparently doesn't choose to play most of the time.
