Carsten, ok ok, I've been busy today... last night's show at Brownies was really great. Jen Wood and also some other band opened, Kill Howlie Day, who were ok. I was really impressed by Jen Wood - she has some stuff out on tree records (http://www.treerecords.com). Mary Lou played for a LONG time. If my tape recorder properly recorded the show, I'll be able to tell you exactly what order she played everything but she did play: She's Still Bewitching Me Camden Town Rain New Thing Now Western Union Desperate I Don't Want To Get Over You Aim Low I Figured You Out Beeswing 1952 Vincent Black Lightning Some Jingle Jangle Morning She Had You Cinderella Backstreet Ontario Quebec And Me Throng of Blowtown Eternal Circle Speeding Motorcycle I'm sure she played a lot more, I just don't remember right this second. It was a fun show, Mary Lou told a story about visiting Joni Mitchell's house...it's kindof funny, I can't recall all of it, and a few other little stories. I finally got my interview with her, which I will let everyone know when it's up on the web. OK, that's about all I can say about the show... :) Rachel ===== Rachel Kramer Bussel Visit my website at http://raquelita8.tripod.com Lusty Lady column, http://ctomag.com/may16cto/newlust.html Reviews Editor, Venus or Vixen, http://www.venusorvixen.com Also visit http://www.lesbianation.com and http://www.technodyke.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Amazing voice? Do you mean, can she shatter glass with it or compete with the three tenors? Of course not. How about Amazingly Expressive, Amazingly Beautiful, Amazingly Melodic... Mary Lou could never out-yodel Whitney Houston, but her voice is perhaps her greatest gift - it doesn't break glass but it melts hearts. Masterful guitar technique? Of course not... but she's become a solid guitarist, if inconsistent, and her playing works perfectly for 99% of the songs she plays. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Aug 2000 19:09:51 -0700 From: "Russ Van Rooy" Subject: Re: [MLL] reviews anyone? I love Mary Lous' voice. Her voice is what attracted me to her to begin with. I have a friend who doesn't like Mary Lous' voice. For my friend, Mary Lous' voice is too thin. I , on the other hand like the "whispy-ness" of her voice. It's almost child-like. I like Suzanne Vega and Julianna Hatfield for the same reason. My friend , for her part. comes from the Kate Bush/Happy Rhodes/Tori Amos vocal party - of course I love them too ! I agree with you , Dino, "amazingly expressive" sums up her voice nicely ! Also, her songs and the songs she chooses to cover are all great ! I wish she come back to the left coast ! - - Russ from Seattle - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dino Dimuro" To: ; Sent: Monday, August 07, 2000 3:09 PM Subject: Re: [MLL] reviews anyone? > >>as we all know, she doesn't have an amazing voice or masterful guitar technique...<< > > I'm not so sure that we all "know" this. She puts way more feeling into her songs even if she didn't initially write some of them. In conclusion I love her voice and everthing she's put out even live stuff.
