[which wouldn't have made it a real cover vresion since he was involved, i guess]. when i mentioned "i don't want to get over you" and "when my boy walks down the street", he seemed to be very surprised but very happy that somebody bothered to play his songs. end of story ;-) carsten - -- http://carstenwohlfeld.de "i say: 'it's me or drugs' - you choose drugs" (juliana hatfield) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2000 13:22:40 -0700 (PDT) From: Rachel Bussel Subject: [MLL] Free Magnetic Fields show - NYC, August 3rd FYI - anyone on New York on August 3rd, Magnetic Fields are playing a free show at Castle Clinton, which is somewhere in Battery Park as far as I know. Not sure of the time, probably 8 or something but double check. That's cool that Stephin is pleased about Mary Lou covering the songs. This isn't about Mary Lou, but at the Experience Music Project website there is a great history of riot grrl with info on Bikini Kill, Bratmobile, Jean Smith, Heavens to Betsy, etc: http://www.emplive.com/explore/riot_grrrl/index.asp I can't wait to get to Seattle at some point to check out the real thing. rachel __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Johnny Foley's upstairs bar is crowded and *very* noisy, but the cellar is an impressive and intimate room, with a small stage at one end, 40-or-so chairs set up close to the stage, then a dozen-or-so tables-for-four arranged behind these chairs, and a few dark booths along the back wall... also a comfortable bar, room for dancing, etc... space for the "listeners" up close, and space for the more party-minded in the back... very nice! Unfortunately, Mary Lou missed the show, calling the venue shortly after 8pm with news of flight problems getting out of LA... fortunately, I have tickets for Saturday's show, and I'm hopeful she'll be there... it's been over two years since I last saw Mary Lou (and met Rachel too! ) ------------------------------ End of jinglejangle-digest V3 #99 *********************************
