    Yes, I know, a lurker has made two posts in two days. But I have one 
really quick question which I'm hoping someone can answer - the MLL Club 
Passim show that's up on the web, what's the date of it? I like keeping the 
dates of live shows handy. Thanks. :^)

    Wow, you all are probably really getting sick of me. However, I do have a 
point. :^) There's a program called Napster, through which people share mp3s. 
I'm sure some of you on this list have heard about it or are even on it; if 
so, you've probably noticed the *remarkable* lack of any smaller bands and 
singers mp3s. While the program is great for finding practically any song my 
medium- to larger-sized bands, people like Mary Lou and Sean Na Na are 
horribly underrepresented on the program. I've set out to change that - I'm 
trying to get as many mp3s of these smaller bands on the program as possible, 
and I'd love you guys to help me, if you don't mind. :^)
    I figure you can help me in one of four way: 1) sign on to Napster with 
your Mary Lou Lord and other small band mp3s perminately; 2) sign on 
temporarily (it doesn't take more than 5 minutes to download and set up), and 
allow me to download all of your mp3s that the program needs; 3) point me in 
the direction of any links to web or ftp sites you know of that house *any* 
small band mp3s (it doesn't have to be Mary Lou - it could be Elliott Smith, 
Heatmiser, Aimee Mann, Sean Na Na, any band you think is underrepresented); 
4) if you don't have a ftp server, contact me and I'll let you upload them to 
mine (provided you don't do any damage to the stuff I have on mine :^): or 5) 
simply send them to me in a good old fashioned e-mail.
    Now I know that was a long rant, but I think part of the goal of this 
list is to get Mary Lou Lord and other small artists like her recognized 
more, and I think this is a great way to do it. *Please* e-mail me if you can 
help in any way - I'm taking on the bulk of the work, so don't worry about 
having to put in hours on it (unless you want to, of course :^).
    Thank you so much in advance! Oh, and I have a quick question for you 
all: do you think I should put MLL studio songs on Napster, or just live and 
rare songs? I know the ethically thing about studio songs, but it could

I use Napster on and off (using a dial-up modem tends to restrict your
usage). So I think I can comment on this.

IMO exposure without sales doesn't really benefit MLL (except for
tours), so I think you should make available live and rare songs; at
most, 1 or 2 from each of the EPs and GNS. People who're serious about
wanting to hear MLL can go and buy her stuff - they're readily available
from KRS mail-order or online e-tailers.

Secondly, no disrespect or offence, but whatever impact you have is
going to be minimal as to be insignificant. The thing about Napster is
that, even if you have a permanent connection and are always logged in,
Napster operates a number of servers, so unless the various servers are
now linked (which AFAIK they are not), your stuff is available only to
those people logged onto the same server as you. And considering that
you log on to a different server every time you connect, and you can't
control the server you log onto, that does tend to make it difficult for
you to be a dedicated MLL-content distributor.

My 2-cents.

PS. I've read reports that the new Napster beta (ver 2.0 beta 5a) seems
to start up and connect to the Napster servers by itself. I'm using beta
5 which is fine, and I don't think I'm going to upgrade to beta 5a
anytime soon.
