I'm glad to know this, and I would suggest that he, and everyone else look past that. I'm not upset, just was a little annoyed, especially when he asked me for the history lession. Good luck with the book. I am somewhat familiar with the scene from the 70s you speak of. I was a very big fan of June Millington (from Fanny). Had a wonderful opportunity to see her solo performance in NYC. Her solo records were marvelous, as was the one she did with her sister, Jean. Other artists I recall from the period in this scene included Deadly Nightshade, Isis and, of course, Cris, who June worked with on several LPs. And now I've recently discovered that Janis Ian COULD have been a member of this scene, although she just chose to reveal her homosexuality quite recently. As to the homocore movement you mention, aside from several female folk singers, this doesn't seem to include many women that I am aware of, nor do there seem to be many Rock and Roll bands so identified - I'm only familiar with The Queers and the Pansy Division (both male groups). I'm sure there are many homosexuals in rock and roll, they just don't seem to call attention to that fact as part of their act the way these bands do. Charity Ball, from Fanny, rocks. Wow you got to see June, cool. I've heard a lot about Deadly Nightshade but never heard them. Check out Gillian Garr's She's A Rebel for their story and just because it's an intersting book, a history of rock told from a feminst point of view. I love Isis too, and have heard Carol McDonald solo, the album isn't much but she does a great cover of AC/DC's Girls got Rhythm. Chris Williamson is cool too, I love The Changer And The Changed. Have you heard Holly Near? She's great. Jean played on Changer. I had heard rumors about Janis Ian, but was still surprised that she came out. I have Breaking Silence by her, wonderful. Had the pleasure of meeting her some years ago, very cool person, she autographed my t-shirt. So homocore is mostly male, I'm mostly falmiure with the woman's side of it. I have heard Pansy Divison though, very funny band. the Qeeers are actually stright. There are a lot of gay people in rock, and I wish they would come out and call attention to themselves, enough so that you know their gay from their songs, and from their activsm. My book wouldn't have been needed to be written if every rocker came out. Of course the flip side, and this is not a flame to Melissa E, KD or IG's fans, but I don't understand how they can be so out in interviews and then write these vauge to the point of closeting themselves songs. And in Melissa's case hysterically vauge. I mean, Melissa can go to the press about her kids and how her lover conceived them with David Crosby's help but she'll never write a song along the lines of 'lesbians should have the right to marry.' And that' too bad, we need that. I hope they come to their senses at some point, as it's cool they're out, but not like this.
