You imply that there have been others? Also, by "gay/lesbian" are you implying a female scene or does this also include male homosexuals? 2- What's a "cretque?" Do you mean "critique," as in the publisher's "critique of your article?" 3- I'd be curious to discover how MLL has been an influence. Surely, not just because she is a female singer/songwriter? It's sort of like the scene in the book but without the septirtism of it. They really were the first altarntive music scene. Cris Williamson comes from that scene, as well as Holly Near and a bunch of other women, very mellow stuff, very folk, the album to get if you want an idea of it is Cris's The Changer And The Changed. Good album. Riot Grrl and Homocore too, sort of, more seprtisim, the scen in the book rejects that as it didn't work. There a lot of women in the gay/lesbian rock scene, also a lot of men, both gay and straight, as are the women of it. The bands I focus on mainly, Great Big Something, the main charaters band, and their opening act, The Space Heaters, are all gay and lesbian. Yes it's critique, not the mis-spelling by me, the publisher did do that. Believe it or not I have a learning disability that affects me in grammar and spelling, very poor, but not writing in general. No Mary Lou isn't an influence because she's a woman. She writes great songs, has great taste in covers, and that's why she's an influence. I also wanted to get away from the cannon of alterntive rock, as in Stooges, Patti Smith, Velvets, MC5, Yoko ect, or if your younger and like rap/metal, the alt rock of today, Sabbith and Led Zep. and go for people who should be influential now, not 20 years from now, like what happened with the Velvets and 70's punk. Some other influnces on the scene are Aimee Mann, Scott Miller of the Loud Family, Dar Williams, the Nields, L7, Vercua Salt and Michael Penn. Those are the big ones, they're many more. "Boston All Star 12 Dayz", a slightly altered version of 12 Days of Christmas. Different Boston artists take turns singing a day. Mary Lou sings the 11th day. The cd is a benefit for the Boston Institute For Arts Therapy.
