I stopped by the Eagle Rock All Star Lanes at 8:00 and said hello to Kevin, Amy, and the band - - I swooned over color pictures of Annabelle, had a Tequiza and an (illegal) cigarette (Practically everyone, including the bar maid, was puffing away right in front of the NO SMOKING signs) and accepted a free copy of the Teen's CD... Went home, came back at 10:00. The other band was just starting - they were basically a greasier, more ethnic and unpolished version of the Teens - abrasive and slightly out-of-tune - but still packing plenty of entertainment value... sheer energy and jagged walls of sound. As Kevin took the stage to tune up (with glasses), a cynic nearby shouted "Buddy Holly!" However, as the lovely Miss Amy and the band roared into action, all doubters were quashed. The Raging Teens are 'billy with CLASS, their amps bleeding with POWER, a sound so convulsive that the drummer split his snare drum head in half. Kev even dedicated a song to me, something about "You're staying out late again/ who's watching the BABY?" Some graying record execs were also in attendance, and one of them bought me another Tequiza just because I recommended it. At the end I gave Amy an unlit cig and said: "I forgot how good you were!" I think she said: "I'm glad you came, it was nice to see you smiling out there..." (the P.A. music was really loud) I'd asked Kev if she had a boyfriend, and he said: "Yeah, about five!" I shook Kevin's hand, told him the band was a class act, and hit the road at 12:50 A.M. ------------------------------ End of jinglejangle-digest V2 #144 **********************************
