Doctors Without Borders (http://www.dwb.org) - group of doctors who go where the need is greatest. This is an international organization but I think that's the website is the US based version. Also Respond seems like a good one as well...and I think what someone posted about was the Musician's Assistance Program (MAP) - I believe they help musicians with substance abuse problems who don't have insurance. It may be more comprehensive than that... :) Rachel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Jun 1999 09:12:50 -0400 From: "Bussel, Rachel" Subject: [MLL] charity correction Sorry, the URL for Project Angel Food is http://www.angelfood.org ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Jun 1999 10:44:18 -0500 From: Cinnamon Girl Subject: Re: [MLL] Any favorite charities? I don't know if this is a 501(c)3 status, but this is a good org (I think my friend, Tom Morello's mom started it -- since it's in Libertyville and listed on the Rage Against the Machine website): Parents for Rock and Rap (non-parents welcome) advocates freedom for artists in the music industry under the first amendment, parents in charge of their children, not the government or the PMRC, and that other problems in the U.S. like poverty, illiteracy, child abuse, joblessness and racism must be recognized and eliminated. Parents for Rock and Rap is a network where people can be reached to put pressure on governments (and corporations) on the local, state and federal level who attempt to take freedom away from artists. For more information write: Parents for Rock and Rap, P.O. Box 53, Libertyville, IL, 60048. A great charity is JAMPAC - a group started by Krist Novecelic which is focused towards freedom of speech issues pertaining towards music. They have fought a lot of legislation aimed at limiting access to music and have been very effective. The board is now made up of Krist, Dave Dederer (from the Prsident sof the USA), Calvin Johnson, Art Alexis, Stone Gossard and myself among others....check out their website at www.jampac.org David ------------------------------ End of jinglejangle-digest V2 #90 *********************************
