Ay Caramba! ["Steve Bornstein" Subject: [MLL] Billboard Don't know if you read Billboard magazine, but their current edition has a nice piece on the surprisingly successful (commercially speaking) RESPOND CD, and it mentions MLL briefly as well as a host of other Boston-based singer songwriters. It's a good piece that's worth taking a look at. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Michael J. Ay Caramba! Thou hast scriven thusly: > >the tune inn is a bar? is the show all ages or do you have to be 21? Well, I went to the website - www.elevatormusic.com - and found out a few things, which I'll pass along. Here's basic info for the venue: TUNE INN CAFE 29 CENTER ST NEW HAVEN, CT (203) 772-4310 or (203) 865-9371 DOORS OPEN AT 8PM SHOWTIMES 8:30 PM SUNDAYS DOORS AT 5PM, SHOWTIMES 5:30PM ALL SHOWS-ALL AGES UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. which would explain the chainlink fence around the bar area - you'd have to be 21 to pass that checkpoint, but all ages could enter the club itself. Also, in the list of upcoming bands with charming names like THE GENITORTURERS, SIT N’ SPIN, THE BOREDOMS, THE BLOOD, THE CASUALTIES, THE UNSEEN (I guess you've really got to see them), VIOLENT SOCIETY, THE AFFLICTED, and MATADOR RECORDING ARTISTS FUCK there is a listing that reads, and I quote: FRIDAY JUNE 18 MARY LOU LORD, THE RAYS So it seems fair to say the club thinks she will be there. But that's all they have - no links, no bio, no clue as to whether it's solo or with band - so I suggest calling the club. Picking the right time of day to do that is the trickiest thing - during the day noone's there, at night it's loud. Good luck!! And keep us posted. Art Carey also pointed out (thanks!) that it's listed in the club's ad in The New Haven Advocate - it is indeed, in tiny print (because it's not a this-week show) as "Mary Lou Lords." We really need someone to research the other gig that was listed as 6/18. I hope it's a misprint. BTW, It is just killing me that I can't go. I am planning to spend the evening in Northampton MA to see New Haven's Mighty Purple open for The Nields - they are playing all NEW songs, so it seems I must go - and then slide over to Pearl Street to catch Beth Orton. This lineup is overwhelming, although I've gotta admit I'd love to stay right here and catch MLL. Oh well, sometimes there is just too much happening on one date. There are a couple of other gigs that night too. 7/17 is another one of those dates, with something like six things going on that I want to go to. Anybody know a speed-cloner? I am, however, planning to go up to The Iron Horse to see her on 6/25. If anybody wants to caravan or carpool or meet up there drop me a line.
