Jeff (and everyone else), One of the absolute best bar-none free resources for legal questions pertaining to copyright questions and issues is www.lawgirl.com It is a site designed and run by an L.A.-based entertainment lawyer who dishes out the pro bono advice like its going out of style! They even have a message board that she replies to regularly (the section called "ask lawgirl") It's worth a shot. No way, guys. I am getting ready to pursue a copyright law practice, and there is a "knowing" requirement in fed. Copyright statutes. Let me know furthur what happened and I can lead you on the right path. The worst that should happen is that a cease and desist order. -----Original Message----- From: Ata Rivers [mailto:atarivers@hotmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, May 11, 1999 7:39 AM To: rkb200@is5.nyu.edu; jinglejangle@smoe.org Subject: Re: [MLL] Any lawyers out there? Actually, I can forward anyone interested a copy of the actual letter sent to Jeff from the attorney - it concerned the use of a copyrighted poem and the poet's author was the client. The lawyer seemed amenable to Jeff removing the copyrighted material from the smoe.org page. If there is anyone specifically interested in these types of issues, I can also point you to this Cyberia list I'm on which is a very high-traffic list of knowledgeable lawyers and legal folk dealing with cyberspace legal issues.
