Quasi - Featuring Birds 2. Sarge - The Glass Intact 3. Clem Snide - You Were A Diamond (new album on Sire in '99 - I am now and forever and Clem Snide groupie) 4. The Spinanes - Arches and Aisles 5. Buck - Buck - former Buck members, this is just incredible 6. Gaze - Peeking Shows His Ignorance 7. Placebo - Without You I'm Nothing - yay Brian Molko, sexiest rockboy of the year for me, with Sam Coomes in a close 2nd place and Elliott Smith in 3rd and poor Tim Keegan in 4th and this list is getting silly so I'll stop. 8. Billy Bragg/Wilco - Mermaid Avenue 9. Liz Phair - whitechocolatespaceegg 10. Saint Etienne - Good Humor Honorable Mentions: Mary Lou Lord - Got No Shadow (duh) Elliott Smith - XO Bangs - Tiger Beat Neko Case - The Virginian SDRE - How It Feels to Be Something On songs: 1. "Northern Star" - Hole - Beau taped me this Nirvana show and at the end, unbeknownst to me, he added Courtney's public reading of Kurt's suicide note. When I heard it on my walkman it sounded so *raw*. "Northern Star" is like the song version of the grief you heard in her voice when she read that note and is just beautiful and can make me cry. 2. "Andy" - Andrew Beaujon - I played this every morning ALL summer. 3. "Peeking Shows His Ignorance" - Gaze - the perfect "fuck you" song. 4. "Polyester Bride" - Liz Phair - made me glad Liz is back and still making music... 5. "Seven Sisters" - Mary Lou Lord - it's Mary Lou, what can I say? 6. "S.O.S." - Bangs - short fast loud punk 7. "The Bad Photographer" - Saint Etienne - perfect pop 8. "Extraordinary" - Dressy Bessy - how much more happy can one get? 9. "Tonia" - Tuscadero (from 1998 Teenbeat comp) - for writing a (good) song about Patty Hearst 10. "Is It Wicked Not To Care?" - Belle and Sebastian 11. "Gazebo Tree" - Kristin Hersh - I don't think anybody really has a voice like Kristin Hersh. 12. "Bled White" - Elliott Smith - just the one from XO that seems most catchy right now ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Jan 1999 15:17:21 EST From: Zerowork@aol.com Subject: [MLL] Annabelle Lord-Patey She's tired, but MLL is good...the baby is great and beautiful (says Kevin)....the labor was 14 hours and Annabelle was born at 1am New Year's eve....btw, Annabelle is also the name of the label the Raging Teens own and are releasing their first album on....and if you are in Europe, some are going over your way Happy New Year David ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Jan 1999 16:58:47 -0500 (EST) From: rachel kramer bussel Subject: [MLL] Annabelle I guess the name Annabelle is official - Someone from Kevin's family in England posted to the Sony MLL BBS saying congratulations. :) Rachel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Jan 1999 17:05:33 -0500 (EST) From: rachel kramer bussel Subject: [MLL] yay! Well, I should've read my mail before posting, but I just wanted to say I think it's way cool that the Raging Teens label is called Annabelle...so cute! I can't wait to hear that album - I took some friends to see Mary Lou and Raging Teens last year and they were a big hit! rachel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Jan 1999 01:38:50 EST From: Recordings@aol.com Subject: [MLL] Re: jinglejangle-digest V1 #249 I'm so happy for Mary Lou and Kevin. I know that having a baby has been way, way high on her list since long before she started recording. Mary Lou happened to be in town when my boy was about 18 months old and she was always very sweet with him (and vice-versa!), so I know she'll be a wonderful Mom. This is just too cool. Now I can go to bed! Love to all, Dino ------------------------------ End of jinglejangle-digest V2 #4 ********************************
