Near Davis Square. Anyway, I was listening to it and trying to figure out whether one of the versions is different from the standard release, and my failing memory can't isolate it. A fairly substantive piece on the embrace of familyhood, particularly motherhood, by musicians in the alt-rock community (although folksters like the McGarrigle-Wainwright clan are also discussed). Some of the musicians include Art of Everclear, Courtney and Madonna, Liz Phair and Amy Rigby, Tori Amos, Kim and Thurston of Sonic Youth, PM Dawn and Erykah Badu. I would have been interested merely because the author discusses some of my absolute favorite musicians (although Mary Lou Lord, who toured until very pregnant, and Neil Finn, who tours with his sons and family in tow, often on stage, would have been good additions), but the comfort level with family choices also appealed to me. Very interesting, in light of ongoing discussions on gender roles in pop and the gender division of labor. I won't reprint the whole thing, but it can be found at http://www.nytimes.com/yr/mo/day/artleisure/pop-music-parenthood.html - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael J. After listening to the songs, I couldn't find any differences. The credits even lead you to believe they were taken straight from their original albums so I don't think the songs are different from the album versions. ~Van~ >I was in Boston this weekend and found a copy of Mind the Gap at Disc >Diggers (an excellent store!) in, err, one of those neighborhoods in north >Boston that's its own city. Somerville! That's the name of the town. Great record store, I walked out of there with a big handful of good stuff. - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael J.
