This list can be used to set up tape (or DAT or CD-R) trades, talk about equipment, exchange stories, and whatever else. The hope is that this list also will help encourage other women who are interested in taping and tape trading to get started. The Women Tapers Mailing List is not dedicated to discussion about any one band or performer. Many tape traders collect a variety of live music. The mailing list welcomes subscribers from all walks of music. Heated discussions, arguments, and debates are to be expected; all subscribers should do so with respect for one another. Flaming and name-calling will not be tolerated. Make tapes, not war. :-) To subscribe to the Women Tapers Mailing List, send a message to listserv@netspace.org with the following command in the body of the email: SUBSCRIBE WOMEN-TAPERS YourFirstName YourLastName To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to the Women Tapers Mailing List, just send an email to: WOMEN-TAPERS@NETSPACE.ORG The list is not moderated, however, only subscribers may send mail to the list. Because this is a brand new mailing list, please keep in mind there will be some bumps along the way. If you have any questions or suggestions, please email the list manager, Sarah Bruner - syrup@hula.net. Feel free to forward this message to your friends and family. - ----------------- End Forwarded Message ----------------- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Oct 1998 02:48:36 -0400 (EDT) From: Rachel Kramer Bussel Subject: [MLL] Dan Savage I went to a reading and signing by Dan Savage tonight and it was great...he was SO funny! He writes this sex advice column that runs in lots of papers, here in the Village Voice but he lives in Seattle and works for none other than The Stranger. So I asked what he thought of Everett True and he said he thought he was "hilarious" and I kindof made a face and he signed my book "Everett True SUCKS." I thought this was awesome. He asked each person what they wanted him to write in the book and totally personalized each one. His book is a collection of his columns and if he speaks in your town go see him...a needed laugh. Mary Lou went to Elliott Smith's instore at Newbury Comics and his show at the Paradise on Monday, and according to an "anonymous source" (haha miss lurker) she looked great and was really happy. I got to see Elliott 3 times this weekend and it was really interesting but I must say I like him best with his acoustic guitar. But he did really rock on some songs, esp. "Division Day." For me, though, Quasi stole the show(s)...delightful! So, anyway, I'll be at Mary Lou's Bowery Ballroom show (duh!) this Saturday if anyone wants to meet up...I think I've met most of the NYers on this list, save for maybe RustyOrgan but I know we've been at the same show at times. And not to discourage people from seeing Mary Lou, cause she's on a bill with Peter Case and Alejandro Escovedo and this is probably her last NY show for a while, but Sarah Dougher (Lookers, Cadallaca) is playing at Meow Mix on Saturday as well, I'm not sure what time. I caught her last weekend in a solo set and she was really funny and played a song about "the day that Bella Abzug died." OK, it's too late and I'm rambling instead of reading so I'll toddle off now. ;) Rachel ------------------------------ End of jinglejangle-digest V1 #200 **********************************
