I saw Patty Griffin at last year's lilith and had never heard of her but she wowed the crowd and i've been a fan ever since. I also saw her as Shawn Colvin's opening act.~Britta ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Sep 1998 13:58:17 -0400 From: ouellette@gemgrp.zko.dec.com (Roland G. She played at the Seattle Opera House, which is the largest room you could ever imagine unmiked singers performing in (3500 very nice seats). Dar Williams played a couple of nights before & the thousand or so watts of PA were overkill. Thank goodness they backed off a bit for MLL; it was probably the best sound for a MLL set I've ever heard. Rock club sound people seem to want to take all of the bottom end off of Mary Lou's voice, but the opera house folks really got that right. About 40 minutes into things she did the walk off stage so that I can play a couple more as an encore thing. Everyone seemed really happy when she came back with the news that the organizers wanted 30 minutes more. She finished up with Polaroids, which she seems to only play as a closer since it has 3 or 4 totally re/detuned strings. It was quite nice to see all of the people who came to see Beth Orton liking her set so much. Afterwards, I chatted with Kevin for a while while Mary Lou signed loads of autographs. Whoda thunk it? It's nice when good things happen for good people. Besides Dar Williams & MLL, other Bumbershoot highlights were The Waco Bros, Madigan, The Claude Bolling piano/flute show, Catie Curtis, John Wesley Harding, Mark Eitzel, Mecca Normal and Bruce Coburn. All in all things were very well organized. Unlike Folklife, the sound was uniformly awesome (they pay pros to do sound). I only bailed out of one show due to the long line (the K Records showcase). It was really fun & I was amused by the hipsters in their dyed hair, black cloths, black work boots, black skirts (nothing unusual there) and their argyle socks! A trend or an anti-trend, you tell me. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Sep 1998 02:56:39 -0400 (EDT) From: madmission girl Subject: [MLL] Elliott tour dates Elliott Tour Dates Wed.
