A little info on me is that I'm 16 years old and I live in Virginia. I first heard Mary on the Safe And Sound Compilation and quickly bought "Martian Saints." I recently picked up "Got No Shadow" and think it's great! My other favorite bands/singers are The Who, Letters To Cleo, Juliana Hatfield, Ani DiFranco, The Beatles, Blondie, The B-52's, Jennifer Trynin and Sam Phillips. I wanted to ask about the song Salem '76 if anyone knows about it. For example, is there a particular reason that Mary wrote it? I know she's from Salem, but wondered if maybe something happened to her that she is alluding to the trials, or if she just wanted to write a little history about her hometown :). We just read "The Crucible" in my English class and I brought in the Mary Lou Lord CD and we listened to it, and a couple of people were curious about the CD and where I got it and what it was called (including the teacher-she said that she really liked that type of music.) So maybe I've turned on a few more people to Mary and her great music :). Well, thanks in advance for any info! == Mike F. That's pretty cool that you brought Mary Lou's CD into class...I remember reading The Crucible my sophomore year in h.s., but that's another story. I really don't know much about why she wrote it, besides the fact that she's from Salem. I believe she did mention it in an interview once but I don't remember what she said...that's an idea for press for her - interviewing her at Halloween cause they always have witch/Salem stories about what it was like to grow up in Salem. Anyway, I'm going to try my best to interview Mary Lou when she's in NYC for her show on October 10, and probably I'll send it to BUST magazine, so I'll try to ask her about that. And if anyone has any other burning questions for Mary Lou, you can email me or the list and I'll try to get them answered. :) Rachel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Sep 1998 18:03:06 From: Darren Subject: [MLL] New compilation cd... >"This January Signature will release "Respond", a specially priced two >CD compilation featuring many of Bostons best female >singer-songwriters.
