This is the first I've heard of it but that would be wonderful - it's a pretty new venue and it's very nice and very big. Also, NYC folks - Elliott Smith is playing Tramps Oct. 3 and 4 and also doing an instore at Other Music on Oct. 4 at 6:30. rachel NP: Belle and Sebastian, _The Boy With The Arab Strap_ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Sep 1998 21:44:07 EDT From: Peteragree@aol.com Subject: [MLL] Mary Lou Lord boots on CD I've mastered some more Mary Lou Lord and related stuff to CD if anyone is interested in trading. It was a tiny little coffee shop at Pacific University in Forest Grove. It's about 20 miles outside of Portland. (It may be a coffee shop but it has a GREAT sound system!) When I drove up, Mary Lou was out with Mona across the street. So, I went over and talked and walked with them. Kevin brought up their dinner (it came in a big flat square box, I assume pizza...). The place held maybe 50 people; coffee and cinnamon rolls were free. Students got in free, others (like me) paid $5. There weren't that many "others". Because the one girl kept requesting Jump, I did too the following day at Bumbershoot! It made Mary Lou crack up and waggle her finger at me! Also, her little amp fried. She and Kevin tried to get it fixed on Saturday, it still didn't work. It was promised to be working on Sunday. It wasn't. They had to buy a brand new one. Which they were going to return on Tuesday when the shop reopened. It was a real eye-opener to see her busk the streets. The crowd reaction, the passerbys, the number of people who really did stop, sit, and listen! She sold many cd's, stickers, and such. Well, I guess ONLY cd's and Stickers, because that's all they were selling on the street! And then, the following day at the Opera House inside Bumbershoot. To see Mary Lou on this huge stage by herself, to a capacity crowd was very gratifying. She received a standing ovation as well! She played and sang very well. She calls herself "winded and hingey", but you could very rarely tell. So, all in all, I got to see her play 4 times in 8 days. And I never tired of any of the songs. Looking forward to seeing her next year! Peace, Darren "And the headlines proclaim "Everything's Changed, love can't save you now." J. Currie "Love is a good thing." - S.
