["Francis Park" Subject: [MLL] Structure CD Hey List, I was shopping yesterday, and browsing around one of the stores I frequent, I noticed that it had a CD of "store music" for sale. Seems everyone has one nowadays. Well, "His Lamest Flame" is on it, along with a number of groovy tracks from other artists that rank up with Mary Lou on the coolness meter. So if any of you pass Structure (one of those stores owned by the Limited) in the mall, drop in and check it out. I think the CD was something around 10 bucks. Regarding the whole "How I got into Mary Lou thing", I believe it was 1995 at a radio music festival in Seattle called EndFest. I was one of those promotions kids (or if any of you have been watching the Real World Seattle, a "modulator", although we hadn't been named that until few years later.) This was the year Bush, Catherine Wheel and Throwing Muses were gigantic. Mary Lou was playing the 2nd stage, right before local favorties the Presidents of the USA were up. So I wandered around the 2nd stage, one--to get ready to see the Presidents, and two--because someone said there were a lot of girls there watching Mary Lou. Hey ... I was 17! So yeah, it was just her up there with a guitar, cooing softly on the mic. Wonderful. I recalled seeing her a year or two ealier, probably busking, at Bumbershoot, another Seattle music fest. I mentioned this to one of the girls watching her at the time, and this scored high on the swoon factor. Yeah, I had game back then. After the concert we went to Denny's and made out in the parking lot. She turned out to be devoutly Christian though, and later kept talking about Jesus Christ. That kinda sucked. I was 17 dammit. I wanted to make out. Ah... high school. Ciao, Kev ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Aug 1998 17:23:43 EDT From: PopStarOne@aol.com Subject: [MLL] I saw Mary Lou at K-B Toys! Well... sort of. I was at my local nasty discount mall, going through the doll aisle. I saw "Pop Star Fashions Barbie," and I swear to God it was Mary Lou Lord. It looked soooooo much like Mary Lou does on the cover of Got No Shadow, the haircut, the way she's standing, everything. It's really odd. Anyway, I was thinking that what the world needs is a whole line of indie-rock action figures. We could have like, Mary Lou and Elliott Smith and Lou Barlow and an Ian MacKaye with kung-fu grip, etc. Anyway... ~adam P.S. Oh, yeah, I found a Duplo guy that looks just like Lou Reed. It's really cool. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Aug 1998 20:09:19 -0400 From: "Francis Park" Subject: Re: [MLL] I saw Mary Lou at K-B Toys! I'll have to go zip by the local toy store to confirm or deny this particular spot report... The bit about Ian MacKaye with kung-fu grip had me on the floor dying of laughter! Bizarre, since I haven't actively listened to Minor Threat since, say, about ten years ago.
