Lisa, what does your Mary Lou shirt look like? I've never even seen one! I was thinking about making myself one on my computer though. I have this special paper you can put in your printer and it will make iron-on transfers you can put on a shirt or whatever. As soon as I get around to doing a million other things (like make people tapes) i'll do that too. It was kindof funny because we were standing near the stage during the opening singer, Tiffany Anders, and this woman from WORK was looking for Mary Lou but then she found her. Mary Lou looked really happy and her pregnancy is starting to show. I don't know the exact setlist but from what I can remember she played (NOT in order): I Figured You Out, Camden Town Rain, Western Union Desperate, 1952 Vincent Black Lightning, Book...and closed with Not Half Right. (I think she might've opened with "I'm Talking To You" but I"m not sure.) THere were more but I had a wee bit to drink (open bar rules!) and there was definitely one song I didn't know. I had started out by requesting "Clementine" (by Elliott Smith) and she said "maybe in a year" but then this guy behind me started requesting all these Elliott songs like "the white lady loves you more" and it was pretty funny. At the end she said something about Nick Hornby, like thanking him and I was cheering and she's like "what are you clapping about?" and I said I like his books. Oh, there were a lot of photographers and reporters - one guy from MSNBC who I told to write about Mary Lou and got the word out about Clem Snide too (they are an AWESOME local band playing tonight in NYC at Fez, and I am interviewing them for my zine). Then I said hello after the show and her and Kevin looked real happy. Then I ran around for a while before getting to the Sunny Day Real Estate show and then I saw Blondie!! Quite a night...also I met up with this guy Dave who is friends with Mary Lou from way back who told me about some songs she used to play in the subway. And that's about it...another report tomorrow night. :) Rachel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jul 1998 11:26:04 -0400 From: ata.rivers@juno.com (Ata Rivers) Subject: Re: [MLL] More questions about the 18th(sorry) I'm sure the phone number is listed. Iremember that it's pretty small and Mary Lou is usually cordial to her fans. Enjoy the show. Maybe New York City is closer for you? You would get to see her open for J. Mascis playing one of his rare acoustic gigs at a great little club called Brownies.
