I offer my services as "editor" or "Mastering guy" because I do that a lot anyway, but obviously it doesn't have to be me. Based on past experience, here's three things that should happen: 1. RECORD YOUR TRACKS 2. RECORD YOUR TRACKS 3. RECORD YOUR TRACKS The problem is, people LOVE to talk about projects but they rarely get done. what you might do is: pick a song, announce your intention to record it, then post when you're done. A running list can be kept so there aren't too many repeats, but personally I don't think there's any harm in two different versions of a song, since they are bound to be radically different. (A major wouldn't do this - all the more reason why we should!) As the songs are done, they can be sent to the compiler (me or whoever) and assembled so that two of the same songs don't butt up against each other. Diversity of styles should be encouraged. Also, in a situation like this (i.e., for fun) I don't think it's necessary to exclude anybody, unless we run out of space (doubtful!). I can handle DATS, cassettes, or even 1/4" within reason. I'll volunteer to assemble the master, unless someone else wants the gig. Also, seems like the copyright issue is irrelevant to us as regards a Mary Lou cover tape, so we can go ahead...I'd love to see this project completed, but I personally cannot run it. So if someone wants to volunteer to run it and coordinate it (Dino?) that'd be really wonderful, and I'm sure there are people on other lists who might be interested in participating. Intel news: Apparently, Mary Lou is playing on July 15 at Mercury Lounge AND July 17 (that one is opening for J. Mascis). Individual tickets WILL be sold - for the July 17 one at Other Music and I presume for July 15 at Mercury Lounge. An Intel pass gets you into both shows, not to mention the July 17 Sunny Day Real Estate show. And may I recommend what is sure to be an awesome show - Clem Snide at Fez on July 18, also part of Intel! 4 days of fun! Found this cute interview with Janeane Garofalo in the new Alternative Press, by none other than Dave Daley. It's kinda long so I'm only including the first and last questions - the ones that made me smile the most. - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- So what's on your stereo right now? Let me go look. Mary Lou Lord, Seam, Everclear, Supergrass and Cake Like. There's that great erotically charged scene in The Truth About Cats and Dogs with Suzanne Vega's "Caramel" playing. Anything particular you like for that type of moment in real life? It's equally interesting to have sex to a really super-fast Led Zeppelin CD, or the more contemplative Elliott Smith, or Beck. Or the new Cornershop. - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- thanks for the tips Janeane... ;) Rachel "ok, I won't be your girl I guess I'll go and rule the whole world" -- Lois, "bonds in seconds" - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- my Mary Lou Lord page is at http://pages.nyu.edu/~rkb200/ To join the Mary Lou Lord mailing list, email Majordomo@smoe.org with ONLY "subscribe jinglejangle" OR "subscribe jinglejangle-digest" in the BODY.
