I'd made a note in my head that I'd wanted to mention to WORK or John Cusack or someone that Mary Lou would be perfect for this role, though she'd kinda be playing herself... John Cusack, by the way, is producing/starring in the adaptation of HIGH FIDELITY... ~Sean ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Jun 1998 07:39:12 -0400 (EDT) From: "Michael J. Zwirn" Subject: [MLL] Nick Hornby Rachel and I discuss Nick Hornby a bit off-list .... yes, he is great, especially if you love pop music and football (soccer). I love both. Was going to hear him read from About a Boy on Wednesday here in DC, but saw Sinead Lohan do a free show instead -- and it was very much worthwhile, but I still would have liked to have heard Hornby. In re: Mary Lou's comment that "My friend Jim told me once that he thought I might be one of the subjects in Mr.. Hornby's book(High Fidelity) named Marie LaSalle." I dunno. Reading the novel the image in my head was more of a Lucinda Williams type, from Texas with a country twang in her voice. But Marie LaSalle does sound a bit like Mary Lou. In any case, I'm interested to hear that John Cusack is doing the movie adaptation. Presumably he'll be Rob, but why are they having an American play such an English role? I certainly hope they don't transplant the plot to an American setting - they would really just depress me. - --------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael J. I am planning to go see him because "I'm Talking To You" and "On the Avenue" are two of my favorite MLL songs and because any artist that MLL covers TWICE has got to be pretty darn good, even though I don't know very much about Bruno himself. Does anybody have any comments/advice for me? Cheryl. "I loathe people who keep dogs.
