This is a promo only disc that WORK put out to stir up excitment for GNS or whatever all the songs are relased ect...although I guess they might be diff. versions I bought one lots of people got them for free when they saw her...it's not really worthy buying unles you are a completest or somthin > The copy of GNS that I bought had a sticker on the cover clearly indicating > the mail in offer. Some people also said they found them in the same package but you'd be able to tell because it would say 2CD or DOUBLE on the side of the jewel case or whatever... but I'd imagine yr chance of finding one now is pretty slim...I almost didn't send my card in cause I thought it was for Mind the Gap at first... - -- - -Alex turneral@elwha.evergreen.edu ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Apr 1998 06:59:09 EDT From: Edina33 Subject: [MLL] Re: jinglejangle-digest V1 #78 In a message dated 4/28/98 3:26:45 AM EST, owner-jinglejangle-digest@smoe.org writes: << >hello! i was wondering if anyone could help me out....does anyone know the >chords for "jingle jangle morning", "she had you", and "western union >desperate"? it would be so greatly appreciated. >- -karen >> I'm right in the middle of She Had You right now and so far the verse is just Am Em F C I'm sorry I don't have more but I have a lesson tonight where my teacher and i are going to try to figure out Some Jingle Jangle Morning hope that this helps alittle! ~britta ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Apr 1998 09:17:27 -0400 (EDT) From: Senorita Raquelita Subject: [MLL] The Pace of Change/Girlfriends Just FYI, The Pace of Change is/was a limited edition release, presumably to boost early sales of the album. Even somewhat recently I've seen copies with the postcard, if you want to save money try the cassette release. But it seems like everyone is wanting a copy, which I do understand, but that's not really WORK's job, to give everyone who wants one a copy, but to give everyone who got the album with the sticker a copy. Just my opinion. You can probably still write to that PO Box in Red Bank and answer some questions and they may send you one, I don't know. To the people who sent theirs in and are still waiting, presumably you'll get it eventually. I know that Newbury Comics in Cambridge and Hear Music in Berkeley definitely had copies of the EP, they were selling 'em with the album so you might want to try those stores. I found a new issue of Girlfriends yesterday and lo and behold, a cute photo of Mary Lou (in that puffy purple jacket holding an electric guitar) and a little review, though kindof annoyingly the reviewer didn't say *which* show she was reviewing, but it sounds like it could've been the record release party. Oh, and Dana Plato (Diff'rent Strokes, remember her??) is on the cover! Here's the blurb: In Concert With Mary Lou Lord/Got No Shadow by Diane Lowery After years spent refining her craft on subway platforms, Mary Lou Lord is in her element in front of a crowd. her sweet voice and pert, tomboy looks lend charisma to an already riveting vocal show. Better yet, her songs play like short stories about life, love, and where it all goes, and she begins each melody with some expository. "This song I'd like to dedicate to President Clinton right now," says the Boston-based singer-songwriter, breaking into "Supergun": "No injured innocence-no wounded pride/Accept what has to be, I so long denied/And I take it all off, and you follow suit/I close my eyes/But your supergun won't shoot." Lord has recently released Got No Shadow (Work Group) to much acclaim: critics are mooning over her sweet-girl singing, pop aesthetic, and lovely renditions of other writers' songs (including Nick Saloman's from the alternative band Bevis Frond). The album reflects her singing and songwriting abilities well, but live performance is where Lord's winsomeness shines through. "This song is about a really cool river that's right next to the Thames in London," she explained to the cheering audience. "nobody ever talks about it because of the Thames. But the river is called the Lea, and it's where all the riffraff hang out," she concludes, tearing into the guitar and pan-pipe intro of "Down Along the Lea." Aided by her bouncing backing band, Lord sang most of the cuts from her new disc, including her tear-jerker track, "Western Union Desperate": "Can't help your twilight loneliness/or brush away your tears/I'll wire you some love today." Miniskirted pop singers are a dime a dozen these days, coughed up and spit out by the MTV machine. Refreshing and original songstresses are a rarity, so catch this one while you can. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Apr 1998 13:58:36 PDT From: "Matt P." I was just about to do Jingle Jangle Morning and then while tuning my high E string broke. Shit. So it'll be a few days til this is "perfect". A lot of the distinguishing sounds in this is a bass guitar, which makes the chorus chords sound empty if there is no bass in the mix. Nevertheless, here it is, I hope somewhat accurate but don't count on it....SHE HAD YOU intro: (lots of solo overdubs, but the chords are...) Am, F verse: Am E F C lead into chorus: F chorus: C Am F (this really sounds empty...get a band for this song) Yet again, not difficult, but then again, not a very complete transcription. Oh well. Help me if you can. I won't take it personally. "She canceled eight shows," said publicist Dawn Sutter at Girlie Action. "She's been touring since January. She's been touring for months and months and months." It seems those months of touring to support Got No Shadow, her first release for the Sony-owned Work Group, have taken their toll. Lord had to ancel April dates in Minneapolis, Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus, Ohio, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Cleveland, Toronto, Ontario and Providence, Rhode Island. Lord still plans to appear on this summer's Lilith Fair tour and will attempt to reschedule the eight dates in conjunction with her Lilith appearances. "She's very excited to appear at Lilith," said Sutter. "She absolutely loves Bonnie Raitt, she's one of her idols." Lord is one of a number of Lilith fairies, including Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott and Rebekah, who have recently posed for Levi's jeans ads that will run in Vogue. Levi's is a corporate sponsor of the Lilith Fair. ------------------------------ End of jinglejangle-digest V1 #79 *********************************
