For those of you who have almost given up on the free EP for Got no Shadow...there's still hope. Mine just came in a few days ago and I sent my card out the day I got the album. MLL interview accidently erased and I'm looking to buy a replacement... would $20 do? E-mail me if you could possibly help. Also, does anyone else feel it is entirely too bizarre watching Mary Lou rise to fame this way? But hey, if no one else deserves it...it's her . Thanks, Rachel L. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Apr 1998 18:41:10 -0400 (EDT) From: Senorita Raquelita Subject: [MLL] MLL articles Just doing a newspaper search on Mary Lou and found a few things: The Dallas Morning News, Thursday, April 9, 1998 TODAY WHAT'S IN THE CHANGER? - singer-songwriter Mary Lou Lord Mike Morgan & the Crawl, The Road (Black Top, 1998) - Dallas guitar slinger Mike Morgan plays (and writes) the blues with a keen sense of swing and economy. But singer-harmonica player Lee McBride emerges as a star in his own right on the Crawl's rocking fifth album: His gravy-thick tenor gives the songs a Memphis edge, while his eerie harp solos are pure Chicago blues, circa 1954. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Allstar Online reports that Gordon Gano of the Violent Femmes is supervising a tribute album to himself, said to feature Lou Reed, PJ Harvey, John Cale and Mary Lou Lord. If you want something done right ... (this is from October, 1997) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- also, I've been thinking that Mary Lou and Natalie Merchant, who will both be on Lilith (tomorrow we'll find out precisely when everyone will be at which venue), have a good deal in common. Both seem rooted in folk, or at least fans of folk music, and both have mentioned Kerouac in their songs (sometimes Mary Lou sings "and Kerouac, it's you..." in "Western Union Desperate"). Anyway, just an observation. Then I came across this quote by Tori Amos in an article at http://www.addict.com/MNOTW/lofi/ today (with Tori referring to her songs as "girls"): "Nervous is a feeling that I usually have before I play live," Amos said. "When I finish the work on [a] record, I've always made peace with it before I let it go or I don't let I go. However, at a certain point, you have to send the girls off down the lane with their lunch boxes. Some put mild in their lunch boxes and some have a bottle of Krug in their lunch boxes. And you wave them goodbye and they're not yours anymore." reminded me of Mary Lou too... Mary Lou is on the cover of CUPS magazine - I was walking up 5th Avenue to my job yesterday and see this cover plastered all over the window of this cafe. It's a weird photo - real close up and kinda scary looking, not bad but just odd. I'll try to scan it tonight and type up the article too. :) Rachel ------------------------------ End of jinglejangle-digest V1 #66 *********************************
