They are having a fundraiser soon to raise money to keep the server going. There are currently approximately 140 people on jinglejangle and jinglejangle-digest combined, so even if everyone could give $1 that would be $140 which would go a long way. I know many of you might not have much money, but if you can contribute *something* it would be greatly appreciated. But anyway, my job is not to tell you that, but to tell you that when the announcement does come from Mike Connell that it is not spam and you should read it. There will not be any spam on this list because only members can post and if you post about Neiman Marcus cookies or some bogus deal you will be kicked off the list. Subject: [MLL] The List Punk Broke Here I go to jump on the What I've Been Listening To bandwagon. (I wasn't even gonna touch the sellout thing.) I noticed, upon perusing a lot of the replies to that question, that lots of you listen to Jewel. While I don't want to make any unneccessary enemies, I do have to come out and say that Jewel really pisses me off! I happened to see her at a free show in 1995 before "Pieces of You" came out, and she was more of a diva than anyone I've seen (live, at least) before or since. Tight clothes and cleavage, and those perenially wet lips, and have you ever noticed that she sings all her lines the same way -- breathy to deep to high and impassioned back to breathy? Plus, she was mean to her audience. Simply because I'm curious what it is people see in her, I would like to throw this into the divert-you-from-the-topic-of-selling-out mix: Does anyone feel qualified or impassioned enough to explain to me what it IS about Jewel that makes her worthy of the adoration she is garnering? I think her music is rather simplistic, her voice nothing special, and her lyrics set the women's movement back about twenty years. In other words, I never caught on to the magic :) . Since she's all over the media lately, I thought I would ask: if there's something about her I'm not seeing that might help me to quit being so snarly, I'd honestly like to hear it. So there we go: Why Jewel be good? OK -- you read this far -- now take in: WHAT I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO! MARY LOU LORD Martian Saints CD single on constant rotation, basically.
