Songs like "Cold Feet," "At This Point in my Life", and "I'm Ready" give me shivers. Rarely does an album have this much staying power with me. Good Will Hunting -- soundtrack I have two of Elliot's albums, but really never got into them so much until this film gave him some exposure (I know... awful). I think "Miss Misery" is his best song yet (I just love it when the drums kick in), and the rest of the tracks here are flawless. Great soundtrack. And... the album also has given me a change to dust off Either/Or and his other one, and I love them. Steve Poltz -- One Left Shoe This lead singer of the Rugburns just came out with his first solo cd, and so far, i haven't been impressed. Still, I've been listening to it a lot, hoping it will grab me, because I've seen them live and they're awesome. Plus, Jewel co-wrote and singes backup on a few of the songs. 19 Wheels -- 19 Wheels Basically a local band, but on the verge of a breakthrough. Keep your ears open for them. They're rootsy-rocky. Ani DiFranco -- Little Plastic Castle This album is enthralling. Still not the utter act of perfection she's surely capable of, but a superb groups of songs here. "Independence Day", "Fuel", and "Little Plastic Castle" have easily edged themselves onto my favorite ten compositions of Ani's. That's about it! - -- Mark A. The lyrical differences between the Mary Lou Lord version and the Bevis Frond song are as follows: *** I couldn't stand it -- seeing you there with her I never told you -- how much it really hurt I couldn't stand it -- seing you there with him I never told you -- how much it did me in *** She's selling Avon He's selling windows *** At the end, the lines at go: She's still on the corner She's still going nowhere are just Still on the corner Still going nowhere on the Bevis Frond version. Also, in both cases, the sung lyrics seem to be "...was a waste of space" though the lyrics printed in "Got No Shadow" say "wasted space". I don't know how many of you know this, but she's not *another* one of those female singer song writers that have been *Surfacing* in the past year or so. She really, really, kicks some ass! Her lyrics are amazing, and god, what a voice! Her best album would have to be her 1994 release, Fumbling Towards Ecstacy. It's ten times better than Surfacing. Veruca Salt: I know they're no longer together, but I still love their music. They are one of the few bands out there that features to different set of vocals. That alone gives Veruca the kind of diversity no other band has, and along with Nina and Louise's different style of song writing, Veruca truly is unique. Letters to Cleo: With each release, ltc just gets better and better. GO! their latest effort, is probably my favourite CD of 1997. I LOVE Kay's voice. Frente: Again, Angie Hart's voice has taken me prisoner; it's so innocent and yet so powerful. Their lyrics are simple, but the songs are so catchy ("licked by a lolipop left by your luck!) They fact that they are australian just makes them that much better. Other bands and singers I listen to include: Mudgirl Our Lady Peace (the only band with male vocals that I like) Rose Chronicles Patti Rothberg Crash Vegas Natalie Imbruglia (just got it last week) Lisa Loeb Jewel Wild Strawberries Delerium there's probably more, but I can't think of them right now... preem ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Mar 1998 13:59:57 -0800 (PST) From: Kill Yr Idols Subject: [MLL] what have I been listening to... Like at least 33.3% of >the time you spend w/ music? -Matt Phelps- You're not the only one who spends most of their time listening to punk rock. I love MLL but most of the music I listen to is punk or ska. Besides MLL, my favorite bands' albums I listen to are: Rancid- And Out Come The Wolves Fills that gap since Operation Ivy's break up. I can't their songs out of my frontal lobe. Pennywise- About Time I think I listened to this album constantly for the last three years. Especially good when you're hyper and driving over 80 mph. Pennywise is just a great band so catch them at the Warped Tour if you can make it. Green Day and Lookout Records All the Green Day albums except for Insomniac get heavy rotation especially their albums from Lookout Records. Lookout Records is awesome so check out the Mr. T Experience, The Queers, and a lot of their new bands are awesome. Reel Big Fish- Turn The Radio Off Every time I listen to this album I want to skank, even when I'm driving. Perhaps one of the best new wave ska bands out there. The Blake Babies & Juliana Hatfield Every album by the Blake Babies is just unbelievable. I used to listen to every one of their albums at least once a week for around four years. Juliana Hatfield's music also holds a place among my favorites, but for some reason I liked her music better when she was in the Blake Babies. She's just all around awesome especially when she tours acoustically.
