I'm pretty sure that the earlier comment about Gram Parsons is accurate, and (although Mary Lou didn't exactly explicate this point until I asked her) at least one of the Scott Millers in the song is the songwriter for the Loud Family and, previously, Game Theory. Loud Family is an absolutely great, weird power pop band from San Francisco. They can be found at loudfamily.com. That hasn't happened to me yet, and I don't even think anyone up here even KNOWS who Mary Lou Lord is... by the way, in the song, Western Union Desperate, Mary Lou sings, "I've seen the sunrise at the cliffs of point reyes and I've seen it set upon thunder bay..." Where is Point Reyes? And is she talking about Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada? If not, where then? preem ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Mar 1998 13:59:01 EST From: AWeiss4338 Subject: Re: [MLL] A few minor ND World corrections From what I understand, courtsey of the Loud Family list (go buy any Loud Family/Game Theory album you can Scott Miller is a Great sonngwriter) the the other Scott Miller is a member of Steve Earl's band. I was listening to college radio (WUVT) one night in a pale haze of transcendent beta state, when a voice shone through with such light and clarity I awoke from my delusions. I called the station, ascertained the singer, and promptly drove 400 miles to Washington, DC where I re-checked my sanity, then bought every MLL CD I could find. The next week Martian Saints was released, and I felt like a big stick of aural butter. Whether one million or one hundred of us listen to her, it does not matter, for I have mine. Rather, Scott Miller is the singer/songwriter for the Knoxville, TN band the V-Roys who are a "pet project" of Earle and, in fact, are opening for Earle & The Dukes on the West Coast as we speak. They were the first band signed to Steve Earle & Jack Emerson's label -- E-squared. Earle has collaborated with the V-Roys on a song called "Johnny Too Bad" and another called "In The Jailhouse Now." The V-Roys have been together only about 3 years and several "twang" (alt-country, cowpunk, whatever...) fans I've talked to, say that the V-Roys are their current favorite band & that Scott Miller is one "durned fine songwriter." Ok..I'm done. I think we've exhausted the Scott Miller thing. That Mary Lou sure knows how to alert us all to new bands, eh? Same thing she did with "Indie World," same thing she did with Matt Keating, Elliott Smith & Bevis Frond...exactly what she's hoping for! - --Cinnamon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Mar 98 17:33:34 -0500 From: "Lee S.
