I HOPE... >> Someone on a major doesn't have to give up any more then someone on an indie. Labels do not get a % of touring. If the show in Orlando was $15, there was a mistake, because MLL's guarantee was not high, it should have been $5, I will look into it. As far as Philly goes, the show tonight was all ages, per MLL's request and my demand. That is why it was an early show. THERE IS NO SHOW IN SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO AT THE COACH HOUSE. Really. If there are tickets being sold, that sucks, because there was never a show booked at this venue. The club was on hold for a while, but then we moved the show to Santa Barbara, and then canceled that when we confirmed MLL at SxSw in Austin. Sometimes promoters screw up like this and promote a show before it is confirmed, and then never tell ticketmaster or press that it is not happening. This sucks for the artist and fans. I will make sure this is dealt with Monday. But, really, MLL is not playing at the Coach House, she will be in Austin, TX on the 21st. Sorry. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Mar 1998 10:57:20 -0500 (EST) From: Michael Zwirn Subject: [MLL] Tangential: Posters This is only partly related to Mary Lou, but an interesting digression nonetheless: When I graduated from college in June 96, I packed up all my band/concert posters and went home to Indiana, then spent a year in Israel before coming back to Indiana and then moving to DC in November. So, just in the past few weeks, I realized I had never brought my posters with me. My father mailed the poster tube to me, and I got it yesterday. After not seeing the posters since summer of 96, I was kind of stunned, because I didn't realize even how many posters I had: Tori Amos (both Little Earthquakes and Boys for Pele), Shawn Colvin (signed, Cover Girl), R.E.M. (Out of Time), Sugar (Copper Blue), Daniel Lanois (For the Beauty of Wynona), Sam Phillips (Martinis and Bikinis), Les Miserables, X-Files, a gorgeous print of New Zealand's Fiordlands, and -- yes -- Mary Lou, one from the first EP to add to my current Got No Shadow poster. I genuinely don't think I have that much wall space ... Just a couple words in my defense: 1. When asked about the tape by Rachel over the phone, I immediately fessed up, apologised profusely, and explained why I did it... which is: 2. I wrote that review over a year ago for the MLL folder. It was a slow time, and we were doing a lot of silly stuff. I didn't have any bootlegs of MLL at the time and I basically wrote about a tape I wish I had. Mary Lou nailed me immediately but she really enjoyed the review and it inspired her to tell stories about the various bootlegs that exist of her busking. I posted it to the list thinking no one would believe it, but I was wrong... again! And as you know, once you hit that "Send Now" button, you're toast. 3. I've offered to make amends to anyone who E-mailed me for that tape by trading a different tape I've put together. It is songs from REAL and MARY LOU LORD performed live and on the street. That offer still stands. Sorry my little creative writing exercise got out of hand. I love hearing about it. I just an to know if there's away for us Newbies to get it. Any ideas? I'm read a review in DejaNewa of MLL indie stuff and I'd love to pick some of it up. BTW I'm on a list for one of our local (Chicago) bands called Poi Dog Pondering and you should see what we talk about. This list is better most days.
