It was $5 to see her at the Cat's Cradle, but whenever Superchunk does a local show and plays the Cradle it's usually more, like $8 or so. On another note, for anyone in the Florida area, Squatweiler are playing 5 or so shows there coming up. They opened for Mary Lou Lord when they were here, and they've played with just about every band imaginable at some point. And their Blondie cover just keeps getting better and better. The dates are up on their page at http://squatweiler.netenterprises.com so check it out if you can cos they are amazing live. There's also shows in SC and TN i believe. This may be set by her or her booking agent but that is why prices vary. Her gurantee may be higher due to the fact she is on a major and has to pay a higher percentage to other people than say Superchunk who are on an indie dont have to give up quite as much.I wouldnt say its her fault though, just like the fact that she has yet to play an all ages show in Philladelphia isnt either. I HOPE... ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Mar 1998 20:26:36 -0500 From: laser72@juno.com (Cheryl A Chastine) Subject: [MLL] what we talk about? For you new subscribers: the list really *isn't* about articles and news reports and TV appearances. It's just that when the list started, we spent all our time talking about the old records and possible things for the new record, and at that time it would have been a miracle straight from heaven if Mary Lou ever got written up or shown on TV *anywhere.* So now that it's finally happening, we're just excited about it. That's why reviews seem to have been all we've been mentioning lately (or that's my take on it, at least). I am pretty sure tonight's show at Pontiac Grill was all ages; at least, they didn't ask for ID. Very tiny club, good set, but pretty short, Mary Lou told her story about seeing the Kelly Family a while ago at Harvard Square and then seeing their infomercial and had the Kelly Family t-shirt on, and played about half of "His Indie World" before starting into ND World. It was a good show but I think Mary Lou and the band were kindof tired from traveling from Florida to Philly and then onto New Orleans tomorrow. I did manage to get her version of "Not Half Right" on tape. :) Rachel "your machinations leave me speechless and resigned and while I won't deny your talent I'm gonna quit wasting my time" -- sarge, "beguiling" - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- my Mary Lou Lord page is at http://pages.nyu.edu/~rkb200/ To join the Mary Lou Lord mailing list, email Majordomo@smoe.org with ONLY "subscribe jinglejangle" OR "subscribe jinglejangle-digest" in the BODY.
