I suspect that if you want to get tickets for the station you have to be come a member first, the basic pledge is 50$. it you want to pay that you get a cool news letter and a member card which will get you discounts/get in free, to all sorts of cool things in the Philly area. Anything more, and I believe this is still true, you get cool gifts like a Live At The World Cafe Vol 6 CD, a collection of live preformances from the World Cafe, a show that orginates from 'XPN and is sydicated nationaly. Theirs always at least one cool tune on it. Any way for those who have that kind of money pledge, because this is a great station. If you ever hear it you'll hear songs you never heard before and they featured Mary Lou's album a couple of weeks back as album of the week. It was a fabulous show, really wonderful and breath-taking. A local punk band called Squatweiler opened up and played a pretty decent set. I have to say the highlight definitely was their debut of 'Call Me', the cover they were recording the next morning for a Blondie tribute album. I was really into the Raging Teens' set. I definitely wasn't expecting to think so highly of it. A lot of people were dancing down front, like really going at it, and it was awesome to watch. And of course I just thought Amy was the cutest.... I was going to buy one of their tapes afterwards, but I had to leave sooner than I thought and didn't get a chance to. Does anyone know anything else about the band, or how I could get ahold of their tape? Anyways, onto Mary Lou's set. I left my recorder at home and I don't remember everything she played, but from the set lists I saw posted earlier, it was pretty similar. I loved how she talked so much between each song, it made the whole atmosphere feel much more intimate. She played with the band quite a while and then moved onto the solo acoustic set. She had the audience call out requests and then chose what to play from there. I think she ended up doing more solo songs than at the other shows that have been posted about for some reason. She was still doing solo songs when my friend forced me to leave before the show had ended. The one thing I absolutely cannot stand when I go to a show is leaving before the set has ended, and I usually don't even like leaving right after it's ended, but considering we both had classes in about 6 hours with an hour drive home, I decided it was a good idea. On our way out she was still taking requests for more solo stuff, and she mentioned something about after that the band was going to come back out to play some more with her, so I'm guessing the show went on for quite a bit longer. She sounded great though, as did the band. I thought the solo version of Polaroid was really beautiful, and Two Boats really stood out too. Ok well I've gone on long enough now, but if anyone taped any of the shows earlier or whatever, I'd love to work out a trade or something. I have some live stuff by other bands or could send something else, whatever. Hey there Kerri.. I was fortunate enough to have arrived to Miss Mary Lou Lord's date at New York's Westbeth a whole 3 hours early, and while I waited backstage for Mary Lou to do her soundcheck, I ended up having a long talk with the ever-so-sweet Amy Griffin. Basically about rockabilly, old school punk rawk, the New Hampshire 'scene', and an extended analysis of Mary Lou and Kevin's (Patey, Rythm guitar and vocals for raging teens) relationship dynamic, as well as the obvious Mary Lou and her tour questions. She was very sweet and enthusiastic, and very friendly. She even went as far as to apologize in advance, for her 'lack of stage presence.' She explained that she was shy, her first major tour and all, and really needed to concentrate on her playing. ANYWAY.. blah blah blah... I ended up getting a copy of her band, and thought I could help you out... 'The Raging Teens' contact info. 11 forest St. Dover, NH 03820 Uhm,.. i guess i just coulda' given you that upfront, and saved the rambling diatribe, but it feels comforting to share/relive memorable experiences. Yeah. Okay.. bye. ~glen. ------------------------------ End of jinglejangle-digest V1 #20 *********************************
