I went to the concert in Melbourne. The song list was almost the same as Barry's: Somewhere Over The Rainbow Hands A Boy Needs a Bike Intuition My Father's Daughter Daydream Land (first performance with Kase) Foolish Games You Were Meant For Me Who Will Save Your Soul Sadly, for me anyway, there was no Chime Bells. p" Jewel starting playing Standing Still; sang the first line then said "I don't feel like playing that one" and launched into A Boy Needs a Bike. I was crossing my fingers for a duet with Don Henley but it was not to be. I didn't mind Don Henley, I bought an 'All She Wants to Do is Dance' t-shirt on my way out. Of course, I bought two Jewel t-shirts on my way in. p Like Barry, I was upset with the people wandering around, looking at their phones, talking, standing in front of me - it was completely disrespectful. Unfortunately I think that's the world we live in now. There were thousands of people there, though, and I think overall the crowd was impressed with Jewel's performance. I hope she comes back to Australia soon! Angie Sent from my iPhone > On 11 Mar 2017, at 9:01 pm, barry wrote: > > Hi Angels, > I saw Jewel in Sydney last night. She was brilliant and so beautiful, as she was when I first saw her almost 19 years ago to the day. As then, I went with my younger daughter Sarah. She di a 45 minute set, which was (and I might have got the order a bit wrong): > Over the Rainbow > Hands > Standing Still > My Fathers daughter > Intuition > Daydream Land > Foolish Games > You Were meant for Me > Who Will Save Your Soul > Chime bells > She chatted with the audience after every few songs about her early life singing with parents and then with her Dad. Then about sounding like Kermit the Frog. But the highlight was when she sangs Daydream Land with Kase. She said it was his second time on stage. After a shaky start he did very well indeed. I was very impressed with him, especially how at the end he put down the microphone a walked off. Jewel called to him to give a bow and give her a hug, but he just kept walking. It was a great moment. As I said, she was brilliant and it was a great pleasure to see and hear her again. I wished it could have gone on for much longer. It will probably be my last Jewel concert: its been 13 years since she was here last, and Im not sure Ill be around in another 13 years. But I would not have missed it. She is as good now as ever she has been. Sigh. > Unfortunately she was just fronting for Don Henly and all through her set there people coming into the theatre, drinking and talking, with no interest whatsoever in jewel or the people in the audience who wanted to enjoy her performance. They were so rude and disrespectful. Their behaviour was truly deplorable. After the interval three men came and sat in the vacant seats next to my daughter: they reeked of beer and were drunk. Once Henly started they kept making crude remarks about the female backup singers. And Henly was appallingly bad: I couldnt understand what he was singing and the music was just blaring noise. After a couple of songs he said he would go on for two hours, so we left. > But Jewel was great and that was what mattered. > Take care, > Barry ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Mar 2017 09:18:44 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel in Sydney (Aust) I last saw Jewel in 2006 in Scranton Pa when she opened for Rob Thomas. Same thing then too. Folk not paying much attention to her while waiting for Rob to start. (They dueted "Stop Dragging My Heart Around", which was GREAT!) It's not really just a "today's world" thing though. I saw the same and was semi-guilty myself in 1973(?, maybe '74) when I arrived at a Chicago concert and some unknown from New Jersey with the last name "Springsteen" was their opener. Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel in Sydney (Aust) Mike's right. I've seen from 20-50 shows a year for the last 15 years or so, & it has been that way for opening acts the entire time. Most people have no consideration for them. Coming in late, walking around & talking loudly, & every type of rude & annoying behavior you can imagine going on at a concert. It's not just Don Henley fans, & it's not just "now". That has been the world we live in for a long time. Having said that...Jewel knows that, & she knew what she was in for when she signed on for the tour, I'm sure. She may show frustration at it, as any performer might, but I doubt she'd say she didn't expect it.
