As best I can remember, this was my 16th time seeing her in the last 13 years. Setlist: Somewhere Over the Rainbow NYA Life Uncommon Little Sister Hands (w/ shoplifting story & 9-11 story) Stronger Woman What You Are Ten Stephenville (Intro'd by the Dylan story, which threw me. I was expecting SIBTW.) Boy Needs a Bike childhood talk My Father's Daughter St. Louis song Standing Still I'm On Fire (Springsteen cover w/ Kip Moore) FG drug bust story YWMFM Satisfied WWSYS encore - Chime Bells I haven't heard all of the new disc yet, but "What You Are" is by far my favorite of the ones I have heard. It's the kind of song that takes me back to the way she used to write & talk back when I first took notice of her, & gives me some hope that maybe that persona isn't totally lost. When she stopped to ask for requests, I waited until all the amateurs calmed down (Seriously, people, you don't have to ask for WWSYS & YWMFM. She's gonna freakin' play them every night for the rest of her life.) & yelled for "Boy Needs a Bike". She said, "Boy Needs a Bike? Oh, now you're just showing off." I didn't think she'd remember it, but she did, & played it flawlessly. There was MY highlight of the night. During the childhood stories, the projector was fired up & showed pictures ranging from ones of her grandparents' homesteading times up thru her teen years playing w/ her father. The Springsteen cover left me unimpressed. And then there's the drug bust story. Over the years, between Jewel & Poltz shows I've heard this over 100 times live, and that's no exaggeration. Yet it still entertains me. She changed a few bits & pieces since the last time I heard her tell it, which kept it just fresh enough. Took 2 cameras, but the Camera Nazis were so thick that I didn't even whip 'em out once for a single shot. Bogus! All in all, I'm a little undecided on my ultimate "review" -- for about half the show I was totally over it, bec. it was a lot of the same old stuff she's been doing every night I've seen her since about '02, but on the other hand there was enough new stuff thrown in there to keep me smiling for the other half of the night. And when all things are considered, she still has that voice, & that's what brought me into the first place & has kept me around all these years. _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail has tools for the New Busy. I had a little chat with Jewel tonight. I answered all of the trivia questions quickly and correct (ummm... except one...). AAAAH! I mentioned the EDA's and she so sweetly signed the iPad with a cute lil' angel pic. She also played 'boy needs a bike' when I requested it. I am lovin' me some Jewel right now. O knew this jewel nerdiness would take me places haha. ________________________________ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Jun 2010 21:34:46 -0700 From: E N Subject: Re: [EDA] Tonight CONGRATS for winning the Jewel iPad! That's so exciting! I wanted to go to one of those parties, but they were too far away for me to go on a weeknight. (another reason I miss living in LA) Anyone else here win something? or even go to one of the events? - -Elizabeth On Mon, Jun 7, 2010 at 8:58 PM, wrote: > Whaaaaat?
