You know Tom, You're completely right. I agree with everything you say here. I've never been a fan of 'reworked' songs and generally skip passed Satellite too when I listen to that album but I have a very special place in my heart when I dig out the old bootlegs of it. I generally think that songs that have stood the test of time shouldn't be messed with too much, such as changing something from 3/4 to 4/4 or vice versa that she has done a few times now but sometimes it pays off though most of the time, in my opinion, it doesn't and I will always go back to the original live/untouched versions. But again, it's just a personal taste thing and I'm sure there are plenty of Jewel fans out there that prefer the reworked stuff. None of it will ever stop me from loving and listening to the hundreds of songs that make me adore her music. But the good thing is:.. As bad as that version of Satellite is, as bad as everything she might've done is to you, if you care about those original versions you still have them. And they still sound lovely. So nothing on an official album can ever cause that to go away... As much as Jewel has not much to do with what I listen to today (recently I'm listening to Dex Pistols, M.I.A. and toe) there's always gonna be a place in my heart for those early recordings, no matter how much she rerecords them. They're mostly inside my head. And if they're not there, someone probably had a half-decent recording! That's why I'm still a member of this awesome list.
