The list was started started in early1995 by Jeff W, I took over in the fall of 1997. >Why re-invent a perfectly good wheel?Maybe you could post occasionally? This list has been dead almost this entire century. A far cry from the 250 to 450 posts a day (14 digests a day) in the 1996-1998 timeframe. The last several years, we've often gone two months without a post. Present membership for loose mail 139, of which maybe two or three dozen have posted the last year, everyone else lurks or doesn't bother to read. All time high was 893 members in November 1997. Present membership for digest 283, all time high 1064 in August 1999. To be honest, they only reason I've kept it alive is because for many, including me, is it's "home". Just can't bing myself to end it. Every once in a while I see an old member join up, usually to lurk and read as most never post. Some do. They always leave after a while though. The J-team would be much better off re-inventing the wheel. An emailing list is no longer the way to do something like this. It was the ONLY way back then, Jewelstock occurred 15 months years before jeweljk.com was launched in November 1997. I am almost certain by a "new EDA List" - IF interactive - they mean a forum/message board, not emails. A mailing list with volume is much more maintenance for pwners and members than a forum. Aw, Mike, I, for one, am glad you can't "bing" yourself to end it. The EDA list dies; a big piece of me dies, too. Not EVERYONE has left . . . . I'm not saying that just because I don't like change. I like change a lot. Got any spare change? - -=-Larry-=- (a/k/a/ "Kookybaka" a/k/a lots of other stuff . . . .) OK Mike. So it's *only* been 13 years, and the list has been mostly on autopilot for a long time, but you know what? You do more than anyone else does to keep the list running(as far as I know), and you certainly deserve credit for that. Thanks. In spite of the diminished list activity in recent years, there is a sort of "homey" feel to this unpolished forum, and I still like it. And I like that you too appreciate the old-school, nostalgic flavor of "the list." Personally, I've come to know some really wonderful people through this relatively intimate group. You're probably right about a "new," bigger, badder group needing an updated format, but I suspect it won't draw the same sort of long term, truly hardcore fans that we've had here over the years. Although, even our little group has shrunk considerably. Who knows what the future will bring? - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Connell" To: "Dave McGovern" ; Sent: Tuesday, March 02, 2010 8:18 PM Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel Starting New EDA List! > >My Tweet to Jewel regarding the proposed "new EDA list." >>@jeweljk Mike Connell runs the EDA list. {snip} > > It really runs itself anymore since it's so slow.
